Building Information Modelling (BIM) for Linear Structures started to emerge in different markets. Through the last five years, this field has witnessed huge improvements either by individual personnel or by large engineering firms. Our firm – accordingly – has made a considerable accomplishment through developing coherent in-house workflow tools. These tools work by integrating Civil 3D®, Revit® and Dynamo® through API to automate BIM model creation, which – by its turn – allows for 2D drawings automated extraction. They have been further effectively and successfully applied to real-world projects.

Most people are now familiar with a concept of level of detail and levels of information. Data and geometry have their benefits but when combined they become even more powerful. Stick time (4D) into the mix and we're starting to get somewhere. Get the models to a ‘Fit for Construction’ and you’ve cracked it. The aim of the presentation is to follow the data and the geometry from the design phase right through to construction on-site. To demonstrate how structured data and geometry when properly verified can be leveraged by design, planning, and through to on-site construction to ensure the project is delivered successfully. Throughout the levels of detail what do the various parties need? What does a planner want a level 3 model for? How much use is a level 1 model to a QS? What is the minimum amount of data they need? We will go through their requirements for successful delivery and demonstrate how they are leveraging the data and geometry day to day on the Hinkley project.

One of my main focuses the past few years has been innovation and integration of technology across all of our projects. Many builders who are implementing BIM are using Revit®-based software and Navisworks® Manage software for business development and preconstruction, but are missing out on the value of using the model in the field. Learn technical processes and workflows, lessons learned, and implementation strategies from builders who are on the forefront of using BIM and related technology in the field. This class will cover some real-world examples of generating and maintaining very large Navisworks software data sets and associated data. This model will cover linear infrastructure and buildings. We will combine several formats from various CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM)-related software—namely, .NWC (from Revit software), Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) from the urban and civil packages, and 3D DWG™ technology from the AutoCAD software-based platforms—into a “Federated” model. Then, we will utilize the iConstruct add-on for Navisworks software to reconstruct the data in order to obtain clean report generation from the contained data and automate the processes using iConstruct BIMFlow technology. In addition, we will explore the use of the iConstruct ReviewTRACK system to perform design-based coordination reviews in a way that can clearly capture design issues, right through to resolve and issue closeout. While construction collisions/clashes are not deliberate in the AEC profession, most of them could have been avoided. This class covers practical techniques, tips, and tricks to effectively manage the data exchange between Revit software and Navisworks software to detect, resolve, and avoid the unforeseen collisions/clashes that have long plagued design professionals in the AEC industry. We start with an overview of what's required to set up Revit MEP to work with Navisworks on a live construction project, including live examples. We cover proven tips, tricks, and techniques from active practitioners in the fields of architecture, building services, and structural engineering. In the second part of the class, we focus on using the Revit BIM data inside Navisworks Manage to produce meaningful clash detection reports, TimeLiner animations, and automation tips to standardize and expedite the process of importing models into Navisworks Manage.

You don't have to be a high-end graphic designer to generate quality images or videos with the Autodesk Product Design Collection. When it comes to rendering, most people think that 3ds Max software is the only way to go. But the Product Design Collection has many other tools that produce quality renderings. In this class, we'll discuss the simpler approaches to generating amazing images, videos, and even a little virtual reality-with Inventor Studio software and Navisworks software.

This class will discuss Jacobs Engineering Group’s implementation of AutoCAD Civil 3D software, which started a 3-year journey in preparation for the U.K. Building Information Modeling (BIM) mandate. We will discuss how Jacobs determined which project to use as a pilot, and identification of candidate projects for the early adopter schemes proposed for its U.K. Highways BIM implementation plan. We will talk through the issues faced and resolutions implemented, including the need to create standard subassemblies to enable the company to have greater control over models when compared to the out-of-the-box subassemblies, and the need to re-create them due to construction setting-out issues. The class will conclude with a discussion of the implementation of ProjectWise software on Jacobs’ BIM projects, developments with Bentley to improve the AutoCAD Civil 3D software integration to enable the industry to continue using AutoCAD Civil 3D software effectively, and the use of third-party software that is integrated into AutoCAD Civil 3D software to enable Jacobs to deliver all aspects of 3D. Case study using Autodesk Revit software to establish a multidisciplinary coordinating model using Infrastructure Design Suite software, and the successful workflow of how to best interact between the different software systems. The project is for the delivery of a six-platform, Stadium Train Station, for specific for the Perth New Stadium. BIM was the key elements in ensuring a high level of co-ordination and constructability with the existing condition and staging for rail shut downs. Anybody who is serious about Building Information Modeling (BIM) knows there is more to BIM than the data stored in the model. The more involved the BIM implementation becomes, the more important it becomes to store information in an external database. Autodesk Navisworks software is primarily a collaboration tool and as such presents unique challenges and unique opportunities over authoring tools. Taking full advantage of a database can automate coordination tasks, improve communication, tighten collaboration, enhance 4D and 5D simulations and create a much more enhanced overall BIM experience. Passing data between applications is easy, but finding the proper strategy for implementation is critical for success. This class will outline several opportunities for connecting Navisworks to a database as well as identify the key elements of a successful implementation strategy.

This class is a continuation of the AU 2012 class CP3325: From Mobile and Through the Cloud to AutoCAD® Civil 3D® that showed how to collect coordinate points using mobile with GPS-enabled devices running Android™ or Apple® iOS, and then how to store and merge those in the cloud to generate AutoCAD Civil 3D objects. This year's class shows you how to collect more data with mobile device sensors running Android™, such as GPS, compass and camera, and then how to store and merge this data in the cloud to finally use inside Civil 3D software to create TinSurface, Parcel, and other site features.
