The Structural Precast Extension for Revit software is a powerful BIM-centered solution for modeling and detailing precast planar elements. It supports multiple stages of the precast workflow, and improves productivity for engineers, detailers, and fabricators. In this class, you will discover the possibilities when computational design meets structural precast designs. This lab will teach participants how to create Dynamo scripts to support automatization of structural precast designs and minimize manual and tedious work.

So what keeps the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry from embracing the digital wave at the same pace? This class will showcase how to get the most out of your data using Forge. We will present the adoption by Maire Tecnimont, an oil and gas international player, illustrating all the steps necessary to design and build a cloud-based application. This class will share best practices and tips for setting up a powerful project dashboard. We’ll showcase how to bring together data from different sources (Oracle, third-party applications, and different 3D-model formats), taking advantage of connection with BIM 360 software. In conclusion, we’ll use several examples to discuss the benefits gained from using Forge technology to improve analysis and the decision-making process across our company.

Airport design necessitates collaboration between numerous teams with a wide range of skill sets generally coming from various locations. This requires well-established strategies and methodical use of tools and technologies for a successful delivery of a large-scale project. This session will present strategies for utilizing cloud collaboration tools such as Collaboration for Revit, BIM 360 Team and Fusion Team (formerly A360 Team), BIM 360 Glue software, and BIM 360 Docs software in order to help teams communicate and collaborate effectively in delivering a complex project. We will showcase San Francisco's $2.4 billion International Airport project as an example of utilizing these strategies to enable effective collaboration between more than 200 architects, engineers, and builders from Woods Bagot, HKS Architects, Gensler, and numerous core trades and consultants on this design-build project. This session will present Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategies for cloud collaboration and data management on airport projects.

Many companies have more than one location. In the past we have used one Fabrication database per location. Multiple databases can make it very difficult to share resources within an organization. The Autodesk Fabrication Development team has provided us tools that we can use to share one database between multiple locations. In this class you will learn how setup the Autodesk Fabrication Database for CAMduct to work with multiple companies, branches or divisions. The class will cover how to setup and manage multiple plasma cutters / Flatbed Tables and multiple Decoilers. This class will explain how to control nesting for each location and use the correct sheet sizes. You will learn how to setup processes for the correct machine selection and nesting options. This class will also cover how to use the new “Custom NC” machine for CAMduct.

The cloud is democratizing computing power and helping people conduct heavy tasks more quickly and more accurately whilst leaving their physical hardware free for other things. In this presentation, we’ll teach you about the cloud enabled tools that can be used by Autodesk Fabrication users, including Cloud Nesting for Fabrication CAMduct, Autodesk® 360 sharing and storage, interacting and using Autodesk BIM 360® tools, and provide insight into future tools that will help simplify your workflow.

Hit some limits in scripting? Need to be able to do some more advanced calculations on the information in the Fabrication products? This class will help you with some more advanced scripting techniques including hybrid scripting that utilizes other frameworks like autolisp, .net, and the command prompt to do more with the data in the Fabrication products. Knowledge of the Fabrication products is helpful as well as prior knowledge of the fabrication scripting language. 

Learn how to produce detailed labels and worksheets using Fabrication CAMduct software. This class will cover all aspects of labels and worksheets from creation to printing, including label size, printing using processes, as well as the creation of multiple labels for future use. Learn how to adjust print objects for use while creating labels to your shop’s liking and standard.

It is a cliché that in the world of structural engineering, too often we have to face lack of time and impossible design changes that negatively influence the sustainability of a construction. We are challenged in making several structural analysis models, finding the best solution, leading in design of economic structures. In this class you will discover a whole new way of modelling and analysing your structures. You will learn how to create complex structural steel models with Autodesk Dynamo and Autodesk Revit. You will discover how to rewire your analysis system using Autodesk Dynamo and Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional. And finally you will get surprised how easily you can handle almost any complex rebar design in Autodesk Revit with Autodesk Dynamo.

We used Shotgun to help our team collaborate during the crazy-short production timelines, with 3ds Max and Motion Builder to integrate more storytelling and bring our stories to life via motion capture. …Or simply put, rendering 5760 8K frames of NYC city. Yes, the entire city! At Neoscape we have been creating future landscapes for over 24 years, every time striving for higher quality and higher standards. Software comes and goes, it evolves. However, we have always relied on 3ds Max as our workhorse. Every year we think we have achieved the impossible, yet every year we are asked for more and more. In this presentation we will share some of Neoscape’s latest endeavors to date, including those that were technically challenging as well as creative.

In this class, we will show how a top academic medical center collaborated with a BIM-driven architectural firm to deliver a Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation plan. This plan transformed data about 53 buildings, totaling more than 6 million square feet of existing facility space, from a traditional 2D AutoCAD® format to an intelligent BIM environment using Autodesk® Revit® Architecture. The implementation focused on not only the technical aspects and best practices of using Revit Architecture, but also included developing a much deeper BIM expertise to ensure the long-term success and continued use of the models for future growth across the campus. The project team leaders will present how they have developed these models to use multiple Autodesk platforms to share facility information with a diverse campus-wide staff. This process has improved the quality and speed of decision making with regard to facility planning, renovation, maintenance, wayfinding, and energy consumption.

That final detailed grading around the houses when designing a residential subdivision has always been a time-consuming and tedious process. This class will show you techniques that will let you quickly and accurately grade that final design. The focus of this class will be primarily on using feature lines to grade out the lots. You will learn different techniques for creating feature lines, most of the editing tools for feature lines, how to stylize and label your feature lines, and how they can be incorporated into a surface. Even if you've never graded a subdivision and never plan on doing so, if you've ever done any grading at all, you'll benefit from this class, as the tools we'll show here are extremely versatile and you can use them in just about any grading exercise.

As important as a good model is in a Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow, equally important is generating a good set of construction documents, complete with detail drawings. This class teaches you how to stop getting lost in superfluous minutiae by taking full advantage of the best parts of your model and adding 2D detail components and linework, combined with display modification techniques, to create your construction details.

You may have heard that the only way to switch to using Revit is to just dive right in and take the plunge. Well maybe there are options to this “sink or swim” approach. How do you re-train your staff? Who should learn (or not learn) Revit? How can AutoCAD fit into a Revit office. This discussion will help answer some of your questions and address some of your fears. We will share with one another how switching to Revit has affected our office, workflow, staffing and efficiency. Share the successes and failures which you experienced making the transition to Revit. Let's help anybody who is considering, but who has not yet made the move to Revit. Together as a group, let’s share how we all made the switch while putting some common fears and myths to rest.

Modeling strategy is the key to the success of a project, especially a megaproject. This is a case study of a project with 9 plots. Each plot has a podium and more than 3 towers on top of it. As a multifamily residential project, the design is based on typical unit types and prototype floors repeatedly placed on levels of the towers. With more than 40 structures, more than 30 unit types, and more than 20 prototypes, floor plans are scattered in more than 30 towers across the entire site. How can we manage a project with so many models linked together? How can we maintain numerous unit types and prototype floors as design keeps changing during the design process and development? We will explore group, link, and family strategies, and we will develop an innovative method to face the challenge. This session features Revit Architecture. AIA Approved

Mayo Clinic is currently engaged in a major expansion of its Phoenix, Arizona, campus, which involves multiple interdependent projects. To manage the design process, we used the model development specification (MDS) for the project, first mapping architectural and engineering standard milestones and critical project milestones to the AIA/BIMForum levels of development (LODs). The MDS process enabled the teams to use lean principles to identify specific systems for which design needed to be accelerated to accommodate the design and coordination schedule, minimizing the acceleration of all areas. This approach enabled the team to meet milestone dates without impacting design. The MDS process supported team member communication by identifying what was needed by each team member, when it was needed, and how it impacted the project schedule. The class concludes with a demonstration on the MDS documentation process and coordination tools involved.

This course will introduce a workflow of live Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination using BIM 360 Glue software and Navisworks software on a megaproject. How do you remove the BIM manager’s published NWD file as the bottleneck to coordination? What do you do when your model is too large to open in BIM 360 Glue software? In this workflow, you will see how to set up a project in BIM 360 Glue software, run coordination meetings in Navisworks software, and encourage live coordination among trades in between meetings. This workflow will enable you to maximize field-staff contributions, as well as open more-transparent and more-efficient communication with the design team. How does a Building Information Modeling (BIM) manager get started in the wonderful world of the Revit building design software API? More importantly, how do programmers keep from getting overwhelmed with custom add-in requests from employees at their firms? We will discuss ideas regarding how to get started programming and how to beta test your custom add-ins company wide. We will also investigate how to calculate the difficulty level for coding a specific idea, and when it is time to take your code to the next level. This course will present inventive techniques and methods, using Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the review of the building envelope. A key focus of the presentation will be the highlighting of how structural systems interact with the enclosure system. It will focus on topics such as the Level of Development (LOD) of architectural models and structural design models and how these progress into fabrication-level models for the building envelope in products such as Inventor software and Revit Architecture software with the structural system, interacting with products such as Revit Structure software and Advance Steel software. Key areas of this will be looking at localized high-level-of-development models around transitions of buildings, and will show how systems are brought together and used in a building-enclosure review meeting, as well as the importance of integrating both structure and building envelope as holistic systems as part of the review process.

In this class, we will show how Autodesk Revit Architecture software was used for collaboration of multiple disciplines in a higher education capstone project. Revit was used to keep the project moving forward while one of the chief architecture students on the team needed to travel overseas. We will also list lessons learned in working internationally.
