Designing, building, and maintaining a metro line to match the needs of increasing mobility in dense urban areas involves some challenges: constraints on localization, connections with the existing network, works under operation, concomitance of the construction site, safety of traffic and traveler flows, and so on. We'll present new Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementations through different metro projects in France: Grand Paris Express and extension of the networks around the French capital and Toulouse Aerospace Express. BIM is applied on different transportation project phases. The 3D models cover all the works of rail infrastructure, including underground and aerial stations, and tunnels and bridges. With these extra BIM uses covering the entire rail infrastructure, we'll outline the benefits of BIM uses.

As the sector heads towards a tipping-point of mass adoption, competing on Building Information Modeling's (BIM) efficiency proposition will no longer deliver advantage in the market. There will be shift in the positioning of BIM within designers and contractors beyond its role as a tool for upholding efficient delivery of projects and towards its role as an enterprise "weapon." Expect to see a move out of the project and into the boardroom. Executives need to be savvy in the underlying business models that exist within the various infrastructure stakeholders and begin to articulate the benefits of BIM as it affects core key performance indicators (KPI), cash-flow, margin, brand, and other business factors.

As a part of the Infrastructure Design Suite PowerTrack, this class will focus on taking the completed project design to the next level with visualization, construction coordination, and finally, incorporating the project back into the original regional infrastructure model. This class will take models created in AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software and use them as the foundation for workflows in Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design, Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage and Autodesk® Infrastructure Modeler software. Autodesk® Vault Collaboration AEC software, and the Autodesk® 360 cloud computing platform will be used throughout the process for collaboration, analysis, and more.

In Australia, procuring and delivering infrastructure projects digitally is still in its infancy. We need to encourage our clients and not confuse-simplicity is the key. We've all heard the cliché "a picture tells a thousand words," but there's real value in using images to promote engineering content. Images help us learn, grab attention, explain tough concepts, and inspire. Master Information Delivery Plans (MIDP) and levels of detail (LOD), which are usually very detailed wordy descriptions, can be easily represented through diagrams-which can then be used as a basis for developing Task Information Delivery Plans (TIDP). I have used these diagrams successfully on projects with government clients, and can easily explain the required inputs, what will be delivered through the milestones of delivery, and the outputs at each stage of project delivery. This will also let you build content within Building Information Modeling (BIM)-enabled platforms for consistency in delivery.

The layout department is a challenging environment where everything comes together. This is central in the communication between R&D, customers, and system engineering. A layout is the result of an ongoing project with a customer, from a concept phase to a moment where all deliverables need to be sent to all stakeholders. Marel Poultry is focusing to work in an assemble-to-order process, and engineering infrastructure is a critical success factor. This project was a close agile collaboration between CADAC and Marel and this enabled us to create a deep alignment between the 2 companies. We would like to share how this worked, and why it's necessary.

In this class, you will learn about the transfer of on-premise working methods to the cloud-based platform BIM 360, the role of the Autodesk Desktop Connector when integrating applications that are not cloud-ready, trusted working environments, and the migration of operating principles to the cloud. We will teach you to identify risks and remove them to lead your company through the change. We will share best practices for adoption into your situation and we will give you a better understanding of the benefits, complexity, risks, and obstacles.

Infrastructure BIM development is racing ahead, and every year, new software versions and releases come out at a breakneck pace to make sure that we all deliver the best possible output to our clients in highway design. This class will show why custom subassemblies instead of the standard content are a must-have for any business or project that values design, drawing, and model consistency. We’ll cover how to control and maintain model consistency, to reduce user error, to drive drawing outputs, and even how to use subassemblies to automate asset data extraction. The class will give an overview of Subassembly Composer creation, share some tips and tricks that have been learned on the UK’s current largest infrastructure design project, and cover how you can use subassemblies to drive, standardize, and reduce error. We’ll demonstrate why business leaders need to think seriously about subassemblies and make them a key part of internal standards and practices.

The AutoCAD Civil 3D software corridor is one of the most powerful tools for modeling civil infrastructure projects. While often times it is also viewed as the most complex tool, utilizing reusable subassemblies enables users to harness the power, standardize workflows, and reduce complexity of modeling tasks. This class will demonstrate how to use reusable subassemblies (See CI11634 from Autodesk University 2015) to create common roadway components and utilize them on different projects with different requirements. After creating the assemblies and corridors, we'll explore how to create quantity reports and 3D surfaces for use in other software packages. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D. AIA Approved

Adding asset information to Infrastructure BIM projects. While the delivery of asset information on Building projects is becoming well understood the same is not always true for Infrastructure projects. This class will look to change that. Using real clients requirements for common infrastructure assets the class will demonstrate how property datasets can be structured for asset information delivery. The class will show how standards can be managed at a company level so that all project deliver consistently structured data and how the property data of common several Civil 3D objects can be extended to allow client specific attributes to be added to designs as they progress.

The class will then show how this data can be passed downstream to Autodesk Navisworks and how the Navisworks COBie Extension can be configured to deliver asset information either in COBie format as well as showing how the tool can be used to deliver based on bespoke client requirements.

Working with TIN surfaces is paramount to civil design and infrastructure. However, a majority of consulting firms still aren't comfortable with TIN surfaces and the process to create error-free, easily revised, and dependable surfaces. This demonstration will show the best practices of TIN surfaces creation and streamline your workflow. As a bonus we'll also discuss point clouds!

The Grand Paris Express (GPE) is a major infrastructure in Paris, with 200 kilometers of tunnel line and 65 stations in a future-automated project. At Autodesk University 2 years ago, we presented Systra’s first Building Information Modeling (BIM) initiative on the project. During this session, we will show you the evolution of our own practice together with the evolution of the BIM requirements of the GPE client. For example, we will describe the impact of the BIM requirements on our design (structure, architecture, and MEP modeling), and the evolution of BIM uses, such as the development of the 3D model of the entire project at the city level. This global 3D model integrating the Station Revit software models will be used for communication purposes for all project stakeholders, such as city representative, local bodies, or future users. Thanks to the network’s adoption of BIM at different stages of the project, the interactions between the different stakeholders were matured, empowering them for future projects. In 2000, the Dora River flash flood demolished part of Highway A5 in Northwestern Italy, and there were huge economic and environmental damages. In this session, Ativa Engineering will show the solution that was adopted to ensure road safety. The project includes the erection of the highway’s profile for 10 km, the construction of 3 viaducts, and the adjustment of all overpasses and underpasses to enable the safe flow of the flash flood. In the road infrastructure field the Building Information Modeling (BIM) application is, today, a strong unknown factor due to the complexity of works and their multidisciplinarity. To test the BIM methodology, we’ve changed a “classic design” into a “BIM design,” in order to assess critical situations and potentiality. We’ve realized an engineered and hierarchical process that enables you to create and validate an effective communication structure between the different areas of the project and guarantee the production of smart models. This class will cover some real-world examples of generating and maintaining very large Navisworks software data sets and associated data. This model will cover linear infrastructure and buildings. We will combine several formats from various CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM)-related software—namely, .NWC (from Revit software), Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) from the urban and civil packages, and 3D DWG™ technology from the AutoCAD software-based platforms—into a “Federated” model. Then, we will utilize the iConstruct add-on for Navisworks software to reconstruct the data in order to obtain clean report generation from the contained data and automate the processes using iConstruct BIMFlow technology. In addition, we will explore the use of the iConstruct ReviewTRACK system to perform design-based coordination reviews in a way that can clearly capture design issues, right through to resolve and issue closeout. Bridge design, from innovative U-shaped viaducts to long-span bridges, is one of the key products of SYSTRA in developing mass transit and railway infrastructures. In this class, you will see how our bridge experts have embraced BIM (Building Information Modeling) transformation to improve the designing of bridges from the early stages to construction designs. The ambition of this program is to ease the work of our engineers when creating the bridge assets, and aims to provide our client with a digital twin of their infrastructure that is fit for use during operations and maintenance. This development relies on a software application called CABLOA automating the 3D-design authoring processes, and BIM uses such as 2D drawings production, structural simulation, and clash detection with 3D reinforcement or jacks. The presentation of PrestressBIM program will be based on a practical example of a balance cantilever bridge in order to go through all the capacities that have been developed.
