3ds Max Design rendering and animation software is extremely powerful. It can also be intimidating and overwhelming for the novice or casual user. This class will show you the specific workflows and tools you need to quickly and effectively create still images and animated sequences for visualizing building projects. We will cover specific settings to control both interior and exterior lighting (including night scenes), and easy yet effective methods to create animated walk-through sequences of a building. Stop getting lost in the miasma of tools that are unnecessary for building animation, and stop going down blind alleys. This class will focus strictly on the tools that you need to do your job.

Over the past year, we’ve seen the pandemic change the way studios work and affect how artists collaborate with one another. With remote work becoming the “new normal”, it’s become apparent that sharing a common physical space isn’t always necessary. We decided to put ourselves in the shoes of our customers by setting up a small remote studio to create a 3D sequence called Mkali's Mission, from concept through final render. We set out to create our animated short using each of the tools in the Media & Entertainment Collection – including Maya, 3ds Max, Arnold, and Mudbox – to showcase the breadth and power of the toolset. We also set up a ShoGrid site to track our progress and manage reviews. To bring this project to life, we hired freelance artists from across the globe for modeling, rigging, animation, FX, look development, and rendering. During this session, I’ll take you through each step of our journey, sharing all of the challenges, successes, and learnings along the way.

This class seeks to understand the complexity that is construction sequence animations. We’ll walk through the steps involved in planning out an animation, and discuss which tools are best suited for the job and how to divide the labor. We'll start by understanding what information you need to receive from your client, and we’ll review camera matching drone footage and the workflow from Revit to 3ds Max software. We'll wrap up with compositing in After Effects. Most important is knowing how to manage the process and make sure everyone is working toward the same goal. We'll diagram this process with simple and effective flow diagrams.

Customers created a Building Information Modeling (BIM) automatically analyze, to develop a technology that can quickly and lighting design and visualization, you can promote your architectural design. It uses an API of Revit, first, extract the building information needed for lighting design. Then it will automatically place the lighting in individual rooms within the building. Further, through the illumination analysis, to render automatically create a photographic image. In addition, it provides dynamic control design of individual lights that are arranged. This enables you to control the lighting in the actual space. These technologies are also applicable to other facility designs.

Max Bögl, a German construction and infrastructure company designed a fully automated urban mobility solution: Transport System Bögl (TSB). It is based on magnetic levitation technology and designed to provide a future-proof public transport for densely populated cities. Max Bögl approached Autodesk Consulting to help finding a quick design solution for their urban mobility systems and build 3D visualization models to communicate the proposed tracks more easily and convincingly. One of the key aspects of the whole design is the light-weight construction of elevated tracks, InfraWorks Bridge Design capabilities with its parametric modelling approach was the perfect answer. This class will highlight the main steps of the solution, the creation of the track and 3D visualization models using Inventor and InfraWorks, including animated parts, generated in 3ds Max to better demonstrate the TSB in action.

Breaking down your 3D renders for compositing is not as intuitive and easy as many people assume. This class explains why you break things into layers and shows you techniques for doing it well. Create final looks easily in your pipeline by breaking your renders into passes that will allow you to dial everything in. Understand render elements and what they bring to the table. We go over VFX shots incorporated into live action plates and also full CG shots where everything is rendered.

We need more training! This is a statement that many a design apps manager or principal has made. We sign up for useful tools like Lynda.com or hire a firm to teach us Revit software, and these are great tools when provided to the correct staff. They’re asked to learn the tool on their own time. A Google search for “Revit training” yields 1.2 million hits! The final training strategy is on the job. Trial by fire will yield advancements in knowledge, but users are applying old habits in a new environment.
