In this class we will go over some of the new features in Alias software that can help in procedural modeling techniques, and tools that you can create with scripts to be driven through Dynamo software. Dynamo is a visual programming platform that you can use to create custom algorithms to process data and generate geometry. Since version 2019, we have had an integration of Dynamo in our Alias line of products (Concept, Surface, and AutoStudio). With the latest release of 2021, we have included Dynamo player, which enables anyone to run scripts and capitalize on the power of these tools to improve workflows and processes to save time and effort.

Project Sugarhill is a technical preview of virtual reality (VR) conceptual design tools enabling artists and designers to start their creative process directly in 3D. Using simple curve and surface tools, designers can explore form and shape while being fully immersed alongside their design. This introductory class will demonstrate how to use the VR controllers for creation and manipulation of geometry, and how the various creation tools work. Other topics will include how planar and radial symmetry speed up the creative process, how reference images and geometry can be imported to help with the creation of designs, and how to change the color of geometry. Lastly, you will learn how to move geometry from Project Sugarhill to Alias AutoStudio and other 3D software packages.

Misused, misunderstood, and misaligned. Alias software’s Blend Curves have many characteristics that are not understood by even some of the best Alias software users, let alone users new to the software. Learn how they really work, what the little icons at the Blend points mean, and how to use them. Are you really getting the continuity that you think you are, or is the Blend Curve actually misaligned to the surface you just attached it to? Our focus will be on single-span Blend Curves that are used to create transition surfaces. We will compare the Blend Curve tool to the new Freeform Curve Blend tool. Even as more of the automotive design process is going digital, clay models still remain a critical part of the design and validation of automotive design. Scanning these clay models and bringing them back into the computer to be retopologized in preparation for the Class-A modeling process has been a time-intensive process historically. New advancements in Alias AutoStudio software simplify this reverse-engineering workflow.
