Many piping fabricators now receive pipe geometry information in digital format, preferably in Isogen PCF format. AutoCAD Plant 3D software creates PCF files that piping fabricators can use. But if rules are not followed correctly, the interface between AutoCAD Plant 3D and SmartPlant Spoolgen will not work properly. This is not a problem fundamental to AutoCAD Plant 3D software; it’s a problem with how AutoCAD Plant 3D may have been customized. This class will focus on what you need to know to enable AutoCAD Plant 3D to interface to the Spoolgen software that is commonly used by piping fabricators. We will communicate the experience gained by working with the Hexagon Alias Team through practical examples of what to do and what not to do while customizing AutoCAD Plant 3D Isometrics. This class will teach attendees how to manage the piping specs and catalog to ensure compatibility with Spoolgen through the correct mapping of Skeys and End Types, as well as avoiding various “gotchas” that can cause Isogen and Spoolgen to fail.

This class covers helpful tips and tricks for working with specs, 3D models, isometrics, and Navisworks® software in the AutoCAD Plant 3D software design environment.

In this class we will discuss the use of intelligent and informative design applications and 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) in a multiple-discipline project environment. These methods enable the rapid creation of project reports, bills of material, and additional supporting project documentation for both design review and procurement support. Discussion topics include the collaboration capabilities and conflicts between AutoCAD P&ID software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, Revit software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, and Navisworks project review software. We will also cover referencing models from various design software, export and import methods, and real-time design review. These capabilities are not only beneficial to engineers and designers, but they also provide substantial benefit to the client, the contractors and the construction managers. We will look at the limitations and advantages to working in a multiple-discipline, real-time environment, and we will touch on some of the most effective practices and work-arounds.

It is quite common for companies to manage many projects for one site; however, it requires that the design documents are contained within one entire project to enable consistency in documentation. The documents can be managed in such a way that the projects can all be run concurrently, but updating occurs in one location. In turn, this process enables external use of the data, such as in Autodesk® Navisworks® software or database software that is also managed as a single project/site entity. You will learn how to contain the integrity of site information, such as P&IDs, models, and isometrics. We will outline the requirements and benefits of managing projects in this type of system.

In this session we will look at BIM 360 Glue software and show how to use it with AutoCAD Plant 3D software.

In this class, you learn how to edit the out-of-box specs and catalogs as well as create new ones from scratch. We also cover how to create custom components in the catalogs using the preprogrammed parametric shapes and how to employ the unlimited options available when making custom components from AutoCAD software blocks. Finally, we discuss the auxiliary catalogs in which the non-spec-driven components, such as supports, are stored and we explain how to edit them.

AutoCAD Plant 3D software is a powerful platform that includes a tool to automagically generate isometric drawings. The key to getting the most out of the software, and ultimately saving time and money on a project, is to tailor the output to meet your needs. We'll take a look at snippets of isometric drawing output and dig into where to make the configuration changes. We'll start at the beginner level and review the new iso Style Wizard and its capabilities. From there we'll take a look at the plethora of modifications that are possible when using the project setup interface. On the final leg of our journey we'll look at more complex drawing output that requires advanced techniques. This class will give you a peek at what works, what doesn't, and what requires a bit of creativity. The knowledge will enable you to create a powerful iso style that generates drawings requiring minimal user interaction prior to checking and delivery.

In this roundtable session, we want to find out what AutoCAD Plant 3D users are missing in the software. We also want to learn what you’d like to do with the drawing’s data outside AutoCAD Plant 3D. We encourage sharing your experiences with AutoCAD Plant 3D, but we also want us to all learn from one another to understand how users and companies work and facilitate AutoCAD Plant 3D.

First, this class will explain why we need data from the database when acquisition rules won’t do it. You will hear about the limitations of acquisition rules, and you’ll see several examples of how data can flow between AutoCAD P&ID software objects. We will also explain why customers needed the various data flows for their daily work. You will see examples of data flowing between instruments, even if those instruments are in different AutoCAD P&ID drawings. And we will show how the Views in your AutoCAD P&ID database look, and how you can use them in your AutoCAD P&ID drawing with PlantLink so the data actually flow. This session features AutoCAD P&ID and AutoCAD Plant 3D.

In this class, we share some of the tricks we have learned over the years for working with AutoCAD® Plant 3D software. We cover various ways to route pipe, including rolled offsets, L2P, sloped, F as you go, elevations, and compass settings. We teach you to create equipment templates and use Viewports in Plant 3D modeling. We cover X-ray view, layer and template options, and iso messages and breaks. We explain the model symbols, such as triangles, pluses, inverted triangles, arrows, and the red line of connectivity. Finally, we cover the proper method of making line and inline asset size changes.

Now that database-driven projects are becoming increasingly common, it’s a good idea to know how to work with your database outside of AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software. This class will cover the use of AutoCAD P&ID software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and the project Microsoft SQL Database. Learn how to improve productivity and troubleshooting through the development of key concepts that will help you to best utilize the project database and the benefits it can provide. This class will also cover some tips and tricks for working with your project database, as well as some examples of what not to do with your database.

In this class we will show and demonstrate the new multiport valves now included inside our AutoCAD Plant 3D software. Come and watch how we can utilize multiport valves to meet the needs of the pharma or food and beverage industry.

In this class, you learn how to set up isometrics within AutoCAD Plant 3D design software. You see how you can create your own iso styles, how to use your own symbols, and how to set up your title block. We also cover some tips and tricks outside the comfort of the user interface.

With the Forge platform, as much as 40% of engineering time can be eliminated by enabling rapid access to current project information for engineers, vendors, fabricators, and other stakeholders. Forge software has also enabled digital workflows for lists, reports, logs, scheduling, requests for information, and construction planning during the engineering and design phase, which has, in turn, led to automated construction work packages.
