We’ll go over a brief history of mobile technology, where we’ve come from, and where we’ll be going in the next 10 years. We will present a use case at Hudson yard where we rolled out PlanGrid in the field, and we’ll go over why it worked, what struggles we had, and what major lessons we learned. And we will cover how to develop a technology implantation plan and conduct a tech rollout.

This session is a follow-up of the class presented last year about the “Virtual construction site management with advanced workflow in BIM360” (CS468465). We will describe the improvements made this year through the adoption of the Build module including the PlanGrid Build mobile app for field workers. We’ve been widely extending the use of Construction Cloud with digitalization of other construction processes in addition of those already implemented. We are focusing our attention on setting up a workflow for safety and environmental check in the work site.Using Forge and Construction Cloud Connect, we are developing integration with other company database and Legacy IT systems, to avoid data redundancy and to build up integrated dashboards. In upcoming years we will be able to manage and improve the construction process of linear infrastructure projects with ConstructionCloud in order to improve data quality, reduce costs and time by 60%, reduce wastefulness and promote sustainability

In this session, you’ll learn how different companies have set up and standardized their workflows to maximize efficiency and productivity. Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) is the gold standard for planning and executing capital construction projects and has been proven to deliver superior results in safety, schedule, and budget. This discussion involves a case study of how an EPC provider, APTIM, implemented AWP practices, selected software packages to support workflows, and leveraged internal stakeholders to drive adoption. The pace of key workflows such as workface planning and creation of installation work packages was immediately accelerated by the use of a platform of point solutions which includes iConstruct and BIM 360 for work packaging and the use of PlanGrid to visualize the work packages and drawings in the field. The involvement of stakeholders such as middle management and project foremen is highlighted as a key success factor. The combination of process, software, and motivated project staff resulted in a 50% improvement in the “time on tools” as measured by an independent audit conducted by ConstructX.

PlanGrid became an Autodesk company in 2018, and provides a browser- and app-based tool to work with smart drawings during the construction phase of a project. Setting up a project and linking drawings to the project is a simple process and lets you take advantage of mobile technology on the construction site. AutoCAD guru and LinkedIn learning [in]structor Shaun Bryant (CadJedi) will show you how to prepare an AutoCAD 2D drawing project, with associated drawings for use in PlanGrid. He’ll take you through the necessary housekeeping required in AutoCAD, demonstrate how to add the drawings to the PlanGrid project, and show you the associated benefits PlanGrid provides when on-site.

With Autodesk's acquisition of PlanGrid and release of Autodesk Construction Cloud there are several tools that assist in the flow of project information. This class will show various workflows not only with the supported software tools like Revit, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Plant 3D, but also with approval workflows, RFIs, submittals, ways sheets flow through a project, and ways you can use Autodesk Construction Cloud Connect to transfer data across different cloud platforms.
