We will discuss a design-build project to show our Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow and the best available tools to address the project's specific needs. We'll start with what to include in contract and execution plan to set the project on the path to success, such as level of development (LOD), scope of work, deliverables, and schedule. Then, we'll cover tools-including software platform, virtual reality, and drones-for the best application during design and construction phases to reduce project cost and improve efficiency.

Inspired by the gaming industry, Royal HaskoningDHV introduced augmented reality (AR) to engineering consultancy by bringing to life the firm’s projects through Microsoft HoloLens showcases. An early example is Heerlen Railway Station (see https://bit.ly/2xySKFw). Aspiring to stay at the forefront of digital engineering, we since developed various AR applications to let both engineering consultants and relevant stakeholders truly interact with holograms. Highlights include shared-view solutions to work from different locations, holographic libraries from which to select objects and solutions, and synchronization solutions to push designs back to Revit software. Our industry talk will aim to provide an inspiring vision on the digital future of architecture, engineering, and construction; the role of AR in realizing digital twins; and valuable lessons from our AR applications development agenda.

This class will demonstrate how AECOM Hunt used BIM 360 Field software and BIM 360 Glue software during the construction of the Cleburne Railroaders baseball stadium, a minor league stadium that holds 10,000 seats. In addition to all the buildings, the railcars were custom made for the team. BIM 360 Glue and BIM 360 Field let us work with a rookie subcontractor base that wasn't versed in tools like Revit software-and they also saved us the expense of purchasing extra Navisworks licenses. In this class, you'll learn to cover the bases and discover the process of transforming team members with zero Building Information Modeling (BIM) knowledge into BIM all-stars on a stadium project. You will not strike out when it comes to learning how to deal with a limited subcontractor base-you'll hit home runs with a complete process of coordination, including using drones, 360 cameras, and virtual reality for coordination. Additionally, this class will look into linking BIM 360 Glue to BIM 360 Field to complete a grand slam.

So you’re familiar with architectural renderings and know a little about virtual reality (VR), but want to see how they're used in a real-world example. This presentation goes through the basics of VR, discussing quick principles for setting up a scene for 360 panos showcasing Houston’s Capitol Tower, designed by Gensler and currently under construction with Skanska. This case study goes behind the scenes to show how TILTPIXEL created an immersive 360 VR tour using all the bells and whistles of leading animation techniques, and applying them to a 360 environment. We will look at 3ds Max software and V-Ray, as well as combining green-screen footage into a 360 image with compositing techniques. The end result is an online, interactive, 360 video tour that can be viewed on virtually any platform.

A case study on the adoption of BIM on the new Queens Wharf, $3B Integrated Resort Development in the CBD of Brisbane, Australia. An initiative from the developer and operator. The project extends over 10% of the Brisbane CBD footprint. The timing and approach to create the projects virtual environment, coordination of the new and existing built form with laser scanning, review of the public realm stakeholder requirements, including the intensive public services utilities of a CBD site, through the management of an expected 600 + models in Navisworks, originating from multiple software platforms will be presented. The adoption of virtual reality and the benefits achieved for the client and design teams will be explored. While the preparation of as-built information for facility management integration with BIM360, as the first of multiple project stages step into construction will be demonstrated. A presentation on truly integrated BIM implementation for all project participants.

Encouraged by Autodesk University Las Vegas 2017’s motto to do “More, Better, With Less,” and knowing the alarming numbers of people around the world who still don’t have homes to live in—especially in countries such as Brazil, which unfortunately still struggles with social problems and poverty—this real Brazilian case will show how we can use technology to change the future. This project used Autodesk products such as Revit software (to design and to extract information), Navisworks software (to check collisions and plan the 4D construction sequence), and BIM 360 Field software (to monitor building processes). With a high-level multidisciplinary team, we were able to assemble a house live at the biggest construction fair in Brazil in a total of 23 work hours. With the spare hour, our team decided to have a classic Brazilian BBQ. The house was assembled—not built—in 24 hours, because most of the components had been prebuilt by the industry, much like how a car is assembled.

Often when systems are installed or after systems are laser scanned, we discover issues that lead to rework. Augmented reality (AR) has been a buzzword in construction for quite some time, and it’s a technology that can improve the installation verification process—but it’s still not widely used. In this session, we’ll identify the advantages of using AR during the design phase and the construction phase, and for facilities management. This class will also identify the different ways to improve communication workflow through AR.

This presentation will review how 360º photography is rapidly changing the way DPR Construction documents both existing conditions and ongoing progress on job sites. We will discuss new workflows related to progress documentation and its benefits. For example, we'll cover scheduling of documentation on a weekly and/or milestone basis to enable virtual quality assurance/quality control walks with architects, engineers, and inspectors. We'll also review workflows for capturing conversations that revolve around actual project locations to assist with radio frequency interference (RFI) creation. We will discuss use for risk mitigation, including documenting existing conditions for design planning/bidding, as well as capture of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) rough-in before dry-wall and ceiling close up. We'll then discuss various integrations of 360º photos with Navisworks software and BIM 360 Field software. We will examine these workflows in the context of their implementation across various types of DPR projects, ranging from large tech companies and medical facilities, to small tenant improvement projects

You don't have to be a high-end graphic designer to generate quality images or videos with the Autodesk Product Design Collection. When it comes to rendering, most people think that 3ds Max software is the only way to go. But the Product Design Collection has many other tools that produce quality renderings. In this class, we'll discuss the simpler approaches to generating amazing images, videos, and even a little virtual reality-with Inventor Studio software and Navisworks software.

Execution determines outcome. Team size, levels of experience, access to tools, and motivation are largely comparable from one megaproject to the next. They are typically well staffed and well funded with recognizable clients. And yet the quality of outcome from one project to another can vary greatly. Having enough people with the right backgrounds, the right resources, and the desire to succeed isn’t always enough. The means and methods for completing the task separate the high-performing teams from the subpar ones. Part innovation, part implementation, and part lessons learned, this presentation will outline ways to use technology to the fullest. You’ll gain a high-level view of the integration of AutoCAD software, Revit software, Navisworks software, BIM Track, Skycatch, and Leica systems that DPR uses daily to push work, track progress, and validate installations. This presentation is less about innovative technologies and more about using them in efficient, profitable ways.

There is no better industry sector for achieving operational excellence than downstream oil and gas (refining and chemicals). The myriad of operational challenges these plants face—such as the sheer number of workers, the hazards of the processes, and the high operational costs—makes this industry an ideal test bed for tech innovation. Although many of AutoCAD software’s solutions are perfectly optimized for the construction and design phase of a project in these industries, the challenge in industry is how do owners and operators utilize these complex models, data, and information in the real world? Through this training, the presenter will share what Environmental Intellect (Ei) is doing to merge the construction phase of the project with the operations phase of owner-operator handoff, and how we’re capitalizing on advanced technologies to deliver truly virtual operations for forward-thinking customers in heavy industries.

This class discusses the results of an Advanced Infrastructure Analysis Technology assessment recently conducted by Autodesk Consulting for a major electric and gas utility that has over 15 million customers. A key focus of the engagement was the evaluation of emerging mobile and visualization technologies of potential benefit to the client's gas transmission and distribution network operations for both the short-term and long-term replacement of current mobile solutions. In this class, we demonstrate a number of Autodesk products, including InfraWorks civil infrastructure design software, ReCap™ reality capture software, and Autodesk® PLM 360 cloud-based product lifecycle management software. We highlight current advances in emerging technologies, including reality capture and augmented reality. We discuss the business requirements that were identified, the current limitations and advantages of each solution, and the final short-term and long-term recommendations that were presented.

Every day 14 people die in job-related accidents in the United States. Safety is the top concern of any process plant operation. The traditional railroad industry is lagging behind the building industry in terms of innovative technology. One reason could be that there's a lack of good Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
