This class showcases how our cross-disciplinary team used Fusion to unlock novel design workflows and create unique architectural elements that are 3 times cheaper than if they were die cast. We'll demonstrate why architects should consider adding Fusion to their toolbox for generative design, optimization, and FEA simulation to move beyond certain limitations of Rhino/Grasshopper. Through detailed examples, we'll present an integrated workflow improving material efficiency and structural performance in large-scale metal components. North Bund Lot 91 is a 480-meter, all-electric tower rising in Shanghai. On it, global teams at KPF used computational workflows to manage geometric complexity and streamline international collaboration. This session will explore how Rhino, Grasshopper, Microsoft Excel, and Rhino.Inside.Revit software were used alongside Revit software and Autodesk Construction Cloud to coordinate a megaproject at an unprecedented scale. By exchanging data instead of geometry and scripting the transfer of rationalized façade systems across platforms, the team ensured accuracy, constructability, and design fidelity throughout. We’ll show how these workflows helped the team document more than 20,000 façade panels, manage input from consultants around the world, and maintain a single source of truth in Revit. This session will demonstrate how computational thinking isn’t just for form generation—it’s the key to delivering the next generation of complex, collaborative architecture.

In this hands-on lab, you will hear a real-life story of an architect and an engineer collaborating on specific building design. Together, we will walk through the major steps of the structural analysis workflow, and discover the features fostering the most effective use of tools for analytical modeling in Revit. For some steps, we will use customized Dynamo scripts to demonstrate the power of this visual programming tool that enhances the out-of-the-box Revit features with extra capabilities. You’ll learn how to send the analytical model to analysis software, where we will perform some calculations and design checks to experience the modifications of elements. We’ll close the loop by demonstrating the tools for effective version control and changes monitoring to update our Revit model with analysis outcomes and transition the changes from analytical to physical model. This is a full end-to-end workflow flavored with a dose of humor, which we all like and need.

In this session, we’ll explore the development and application of a web-based tool designed to streamline the application of zones into an architectural Revit model. Our application uses the AEC data model and integrates Autodesk Assistant, an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) agent, allowing users to interrogate their models using natural language. It is predicted that by 2050, we will need to double our global building stock. A key challenge for the AEC industry lies in how we can accommodate this expansion in a more climate-sensitive manner. At 3XN/GXN, a research and architecture practice from Copenhagen, we believe that Circular Economy Principles, particularly through adaptability and material reuse, are fundamental to this approach. This will require more extensive technical analysis to be undertaken earlier in the design process. For design-focused architecture firms like 3XN/GXN, a core challenge is how to achieve this while maintaining the design creativity and rigor that set our architecture apart. This session will demonstrate how we at 3XN/GXN facilitate this interplay in a world of increased deliverables, faster timelines, and smaller teams. We will explore how we have adopted open-source concepts—inspired by GitHub—democratized interoperability where software expertise is limited, and implemented a naming system to lay the groundwork for a software-agnostic future. The implementation of these ideas will be illustrated through two commercial tower projects in London. We will examine the design and digital processes behind early massing studies, utilizing low-fi scripting to analyse dozens of massing options. Additionally, we will explore rapid façade prototyping techniques and demonstrate how we use data rich scripts to automate the production of Rhino and Revit models. This presentation will highlight how a more climate-sensitive approach has led to a 'new normal' set of design considerations. It will then delve into how digital tools have been adapted to support this approach, revealing how these methods have been applied in real-world case studies.

Generative design is often seen as a new design methodology. However, the key principles of the process mirror the fundamentals of design. In this class, we'll present a case study of how generative design is being used at University College London (UCL) to reinforce the core design curriculum through industrially relevant technology. During this class, you'll gain an understanding of the generative design process, see how you can apply it in an educational setting, and evaluate its use through a real-world example. We'll explore how we can use generative design for multiobjective optimization, and how this can be turned into a hands-on graded assignment that forces students to consider real-world requirements. This will include evaluations of student submissions and analysis of how effective this assignment was at teaching the principles of design, as well as course materials for you to take away and use while running similar teaching exercises.

A cross-industry technology fusion! We used Autodesk Generative Design software to create an adaptive connector bracket for robot-operated 3D scans of ancient structures. ReCap software and Dynamo helped us study traditional construction methods and enrich our restoration efforts. This report covers our process in Autodesk Fusion 360 software, including entering design parameters and extracting constraints from the historical site. It explains how we turned the bracket's requirements into criteria for rapid iteration and selection, quickly finding the best solution. It also explains how ReCap processed robot-collected point cloud data to investigate architectural principles and features of ancient buildings in Southern China. Finally, it describes how Dynamo converted these insights into automated building information modeling (BIM) scripting, bridging historical knowledge with modern technology for efficient restoration practices.

This class, aimed at intermediate-level users, dives into Dynamo software's connectors and the new AEC Data Model API, facilitating seamless integration of cloud-based functionalities. This session will detail how to use Revit software and building information modeling (BIM) for complete load calculation with the help of API development, from power outlets to lighting fixtures and up to the main switchboard. In an underground railway station project, a total load of approximately 4,000 amps has been successfully calculated for the electrical system design. We understand there are difficulties to simultaneously use BIM for electrical engineering, 3D modeling, and 2D drawings in a single model. This case study will demonstrate it can be successfully achieved with great efficiency. We'll explore: 1. How to make smart families that are efficient and easy to use for calculation and 3D and 2D representation. 2. How to connect the circuits and pass the load upstream for the whole system, including UPS and duty-standby situations. 3. How to calculate electrical load from other disciplines, such as HVAC and Comms. 4. How to calculate electrical load from other models, e.g., electrical load from tunnel models to station model.

Samsung Electronics plans to leverage Autodesk's cutting‐edge technologies to digitalize the construction process for semiconductor manufacturing facilities. While we have strong expertise in semiconductor production, the construction of semiconductor factories involves a vast array of specialized fields—such as architecture, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical systems—that are difficult to integrate and manage effectively. To overcome this challenge, we aim to introduce a data-driven construction digital solution by incorporating Autodesk technologies, including BIM, Digital Prototyping, Generative Design, and Explainable AI (XAI).
