To manage the ever-increasing complexity and collaboration in the creation of physical assets for LAIKA's hybrid stop-motion/CG features, a Shotgun-based integrated browser workflow was developed that enables automated resource leveling and scheduling in a centralized system accessible to the entire studio. Highlights include a new custom charting application that integrates with the existing Shotgun infrastructure, as well as the use of Consilium Technology (recently acquired by Autodesk), a new, machine-learning-based, automated resource-leveling system that effectively balances and assigns resources. Together, they turn a time-consuming and error-prone manual leveling process into a fast and automated procedure that generates an accurate, adjustable, easy-to-communicate schedule.

We4bee pursues the goal of establishing a worldwide network of high-tech beehives. This is not only to promote environmental research and education, but also to establish an early warning system for earthquakes and other natural disasters. This project collaborates with the University of Würzburg, Germany. In this class Dr. Claudia Leikam (CEO of we4bee), Professor Hotho and Padraig Davidson from the Chair of Computer Science X (big data and machine learning), Professor Jürgen Tautz (THE bee expert), and the engineer Hans Neumayr will give us an overview about this research project. Hans Neumayr used Fusion 360 software and EAGLE software to create the electronics equipment and some mechanical parts of the beehives. Professor Hotho and Mr. Davidson will provide information on data collection and analysis. Professor Tautz is the well-known bee expert, and Dr. Leikam will give you a view of the scientific aspects of this amazing project.

Integrating building performance analysis results in the early stage of conceptual design supports effective design exploration and decision making. Such integration requires domain expertise and can be technically challenging, time consuming, and computationally expensive. Machine learning demonstrates great potential for building seamless workflows that provide faster analysis feedback. However, one of the challenges in the architecture domain is the lack of diverse data sets to train effective prediction models. This talk will provide a brief overview of the potential of machine learning in building analysis-prediction models and demonstrate how we can capitalize on generative design to compensate for the lack of data. We will present a workflow where generative design features for Revit software, Dynamo software, and Insight software are used to generate a synthetic data set for training a machine-learning model for energy-analysis prediction.

This session is a follow-up to 2022's "Hard Questions Only! Multidiscipline Panel on BIM and Digital Transformation." We'll examine and cover the strengths and weaknesses of different tools, such as Midjourney, Dall-E, Stable Diffusion, and some plug-ins for Revit software. Most importantly, we'll go over use cases for different industries that go beyond simple text prompting to give artists and designers more control over finished products. We'll showcase how we can use generative AI as a powerful visualization tool for creating images and even videos, and how it can help unleash creativity in game design, media, and building design.

In this Lab, participants will use Forma to set up their own project and start designing and experimenting! We'll cover how to use our rapid operational energy analysis to see and build intuition on the impact of compactness, orientation, and with a few other basic building parameters on operation energy. We'll dig into our AI-powered operational energy analysis to understand how a building's form and primary materials impact the energy consumption and subsequent carbon. We will look at the tradeoff between these ad other analyses, including sunlight, noise, utci and wind to empower you to balance trade-offs and learn how to design in an informed outcome based way. The built environment isn't optimized for a single objective; you need all of this information in the same place and with Forma you get that all in the browser. We will also showcase how Forma is engineered for collaboration.

Fail fast, as they say in tech. Our mantra for conceptual design is "Turn every stone.” That's why we've used Autodesk Forma as a tool for optimization and design evolution since it was conceived as a startup in Oslo, Norway. Autodesk Forma has played a pivotal role in the development of our 10-step methodology, which aims to increase the sustainability ambition in our projects. It has finally provided the much-needed support for data aggregation and seamless integration with our modeling software. The implementation of Autodesk Forma in our practice, from sketch to detail phase, has helped us create a transparent dialog with our clients and regulatory authorities, based on rich and objective information. It empowers us to find the best architectural solutions tailored to the unique characteristics of each site. In this session, we're excited to share a selection of large-scale urban projects in Norway that have been shaped up in Autodesk Forma and are transforming the urban fabric, leaving a lasting impact for generations to come.
