In this hands-on lab, we'll explore the simple, powerful, round-trip workflow between Revit 2018 software and Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2018 software. We'll start with a simple structural model of a building in Revit, and we'll develop an understanding of the analytical model that Revit builds concurrently with the creation of structural geometry. We'll then explore the Structural Analysis for Revit feature, which lets static and gravity analyses be performed in the cloud directly from Revit. Next, we'll push that model into Robot Structural Analysis Professional to perform a basic analysis and code group-based design. Finally, we'll push the updated geometry from Robot Structural Analysis Professional back to Revit and observe that the model has been updated.

This class will present the new structural design workflow based on Revit software as a core platform. It improves your work dramatically. This workflow makes it easy to manage all the data together, such as data sharing with other industries, drawing, structural analysis, and so on. You can connect the acquire information from Revit to others (for example, other industries and software) through Dynamo software. We'll focus on the design workflow across the departments-Revit Structure software and Revit MEP software. We'll look at some utilizations of Dynamo to connect Revit with other Autodesk products, like Robot Structural Analysis Professional software. We'll show how to interconvert Revit data to and from existing structural analytical tools such as Microsoft Excel and in-house development programs. And we'll cover how to draw a structural drawing and how to manage it with Revit and Dynamo. This session will explore the above techniques as they have been used for actual building projects.

This class will review the new wind simulation technology available in Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2015 software. We will review the current landscape of code-based wind design (specifically ASCE 7) and we'll discuss the challenges of applying these methods to different structure types. We'll then examine Robot Structural Analysis Professional software's unique computational fluid dynamic (CFD) wind simulation tools, and we'll discuss how they compare to the code-based approaches. Using sample wind simulation models, we will review the wind simulation analysis parameters and the analysis process, and we'll discuss the simulation results. Finally, we'll review the benefits of wind simulation, we'll discuss the ways it can be used to supplement and/or validate code-based approaches, and we'll cover the benefits of wind simulation on workflows and projects.

In the structural engineering industry, one of the challenges is to reduce manual and tedious design tasks. Computational design tools such as Dynamo give structural designers, engineers, and detailers the possibility to automate the creation of their deliverables to build structures with minimal energy. That way, they spend less time on the repetitive tasks and more energy on the important parts of the design. In this class, you’ll learn how Dynamo can support design automation and computational modeling workflows for structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures. You’ll learn about the appropriate packages to perform automation in your own daily workflows, and you’ll receive a set of teaching examples.

This lab will use straightforward practical examples to teach best practices to new users of Robot Structural Analysis software. The lab is intended for those who have an understanding of structural analysis but are new to Robot Structural Analysis. It will introduce the basic functionality of Robot Structural Analysis, key features, and best office practices for teams working in Robot Structural Analysis. Topics will include, but are not limited to, concrete design, steel design, and composite deck design. Additional topics will address loadings and key strategies for collaboration between Robot Structural Analysis and other Autodesk applications, such as Revit software and Advance Steel software.

In this session, we'll look at a customer reference case of a shopping mall in Norway where Robot Structural Analysis Professional software managed to reduce the planned calculation work from 48 hours to 16 hours. The planned calculation work included optimization of steel frames and trusses, reinforcement calculation, and reaction forces for the piles.

This class presents a case study of the design of the new Casement Park stadium in West Belfast, Ireland. Located on a tight site, this new Gaelic Athletics site posed numerous design challenges. We explore the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) throughout the MEP and structural design of this project, with particular focus on how the integrated design team used the entire Building Design Suite to benefit all parties. The engineering models were linked to Vico Office for 5D and to Navisworks® for the 4D construction planning. Structural analysis was assisted by links to Robot™ Structural Analysis, and the model was used for lighting analysis and people flow modeling. These workflows facilitated a more efficient design process for all parties. This class also looks at anticipated future directions for workflows that will improve the design process.

This class will cover how to use the Forge platform and the BIM 360 API to generate construction schedule and quantity takeoff for project controls and predictive analytics. Using model derivative API, we'll show you how you can generate schedule, quantity takeoff, or map with existing data instantly. You will learn how to compare cost and time impact. Learn how you can use BIM on the job site through easy-to-use mobile interface to exchange data about quantities, quality, manpower, and progress-and visualize it in a 4D and 5D environment. Finally, learn how you can apply predictive analytics to generate accurate schedule and cost estimation, and get early actionable insights into cost overruns and time delays.

In this class we will provide a guided, hands-on experience for working with both Simulation Composite Analysis software and Simulation Composite Design software.

In this class, we examine a creature modeling and detailing workflow using Autodesk® Mudbox® and Maya® software. Topics covered include concept techniques in SketchBook® Pro software, creating freely in Autodesk® Mudbox® without the worry of the underlying topology, and new retopology techniques that allow for the creation of an animation and rig-ready mesh. The class also takes an in-depth look at the processes of sculpting, detailing, and painting to bring our creature look and style to life.

This class will review new functionality in Autodesk® Moldflow® Insight software that represents the current research directions in Moldflow development. We will discuss several capabilities, including 3D injection compression molding, conformal cooling support, 3D heater elements, crystallization analysis, breakage of long fibers and properties of LFT composites, bi-injection molding, multiple cylinder support for 3D gas injection, buckling analysis for 3D warp, improved wall slip calculation, viscoelastic residual stress, ejection force prediction, and analysis of mold fatigue.

In this session, we will investigate the software and processes used by a single construction company to deliver powerful services to our owners, consultant teams, and trade partners. Learn how to integrate technologies such as 4D scheduling/animations, 3D laser scanning, virtual reality mockups, and 360-degree cameras into your projects—improving overall communication and coordination. This presentation will discuss Revit software, ReCap software, Navisworks software, and Autodesk Rendering, with examples of projects that used virtual design from start to finish, as well as projects that benefited from BIM in select areas of the project. The session will summarize a construction company’s BIM journey from BIM-free to BIM as often as possible, on all stages of a project.

Autodesk’s Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection provides an extraordinary range of capabilities and tools that, when integrated, create incredible insights and make easy work of complex design and project problems. This class will explore the potential and power of digital construction and project management with the AEC Collection. In this class, we will dive into the complex installation of several large tanks in a highly confined facility, utilizing drone technology and reality capture with different software integrations. Some of the software this class will explore is AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Vehicle Tracking, ReCap software, ReCap Photo software, Navisworks software, InfraWorks software, and more. With the integration of all these programs, the project was able to succeed as planned, utilizing found vehicle and building clearances as well as logistical confirmation of the project's ability to succeed. This class will demonstrate the effectiveness of the AEC Collection as well as the virtual design and construction (VDC) methodology.

Fusion 360 software could be your most powerful tool as a designer, maker, or engineer. Fusion 360 is an all-encompassing piece of software that helps users with processes from start to end, design to manufacture, utilizing CAD, CAM, Simulation, and Rendering to envisage a design. This class will focus on the middle of that process—Simulation. Simulation lets designers test (simulate) their designs before reaching the manufacturing process. This enables iterative changes without the time and money (and potential waste) that can go into making a product only to find it doesn't meet the standards needed. The Simulation workspace in Fusion 360 can feel a little intimidating at first glance—with so many options to choose from. We will cover all the different Simulation types, cover the basic steps, showing you which study type of simulation can be used depending on what your aims are. You will leave this class feeling more confident and ready to improve your whole design process!

This hands-on lab covers Autodesk® software workflows to quickly create 3D building models and perform conceptual energy analysis using existing building geometry, operational characteristics, and local weather data. Resulting energy reports can indicate which buildings perform poorly compared to modeled energy use; managers can then prioritize retrofits and renovations by evaluating various energy conservation measures. We examine use cases and workflows for each solution and use Autodesk® Green Building Studio® to explore potential energy savings and sustainable design alternatives. We also cover best practices, benefits, limitations, and workarounds of various modeling methods. We use examples of real projects, including a U.S Department of Defense project. Attendees get hands-on experience building 3D models of existing structures, running energy reports, and exploring design alternatives to save energy and water and reduce carbon emissions and operating costs in this hands-on lab.

In this class, we'll go through techniques and workflows to give you some ideas to improve your CAM programming efficiency and increase machine shop productivity. You can use iLogic to create configurable part\work holding templates, which let you model your setups very quickly and efficiently, ensuring accurate simulation and safety. You can harness the tolerance engine inside Inventor software to drive your machined dimensions, letting you make easy adjustments after the first-off part. CAM probing operations (on capable machines)-driven by the toleranced dimensions in the CAD model-let the machine perform its own quality assurance, and even re-machine out-of-spec features. You will get the most out of this class if you have a working knowledge of Autodesk HSM software.
