This class will showcase the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital Marcus Tower expansion and the all-in virtual design involvement on this project. We'll explain how to utilize models and BIM Team/C4R for Revit's cloud-based products and services for multiple aspects of the project, including the involvement in preconstruction for marketing, estimating, and self-perform opportunities; the integration of drone flights and parametric, in-house crane models for site logistics and safety planning; virtual reality for headwall mock-ups; and structural review. We'll complete the discussion with lessons learned for workflow, full-team integration, and training for the all-in approach.

Steelway adopted Advance Steel in 2013, and it has become an integral part of our business. We will demonstrate how the highly customizable nature of the program is a huge advantage for productivity. On the inside, drawings have a CAD standard. Although it hasn’t been established on paper, drafters have a certain way of doing things. The problem is that the person sitting in the space next to you has his or her own way of doing things as well. On the outside, your deliverables should look consistent—sheet to sheet, department to department, and office to office. In this class we will discuss how to engage the support of management in creating and deploying a set of standards. We will review the tools you’ll need to train and enforce new rules. And, lastly, we will motivate users to get behind these standards and support them through awareness.

This class will focus on sharing workflows for integration of Revit software models into preconstruction and construction phases of self-perform work. This class will explain how to model for effective takeoff and shop drawings. We will also discuss communication foundations for training and for sharing the model throughout the project life span, and we’ll provide lessons learned/best practices for these workflows. During this class, the attendees will get firsthand experience using Hilti’s new anchor design software: PROFIS Engineering. The instructors will walk the attendees through all the new features and benefits of the software and then demonstrate illustrative design examples. New features include some of the most common applications in structural engineering today: concrete over metal deck module, a masonry module, load engine, base plate analysis, exports to Revit software via BIM and CAD libraries and to Advance Steel software.

A 2D sheet metal design using Inventor software is easy, scalable, and cheap. After the sheet metal design process is complete, production of the sheet metal design needs to be optimized to reduce cost and time. The same part/assembly designs that are created and stored in Inventor software can be used to drive cutting tools for all types of cutting machines. This session will cover the process of programming cutting tools to cut material in the most efficient manner possible using TruNest Multi-Tool software. The specific topics covered will include: maintaining design intent and revision control through direct link to Inventor software or Vault software; extracting 2D flat-pattern shapes from each sheet metal part automatically; nesting shapes together on each material to get maximum material efficiency using TruNest Multi-Tool software; and postprocessing the nested result for a variety of different styles of cutting machines. The postprocessor optimizes the machine cycle to maximize machine throughput and reduce wear on consumables. This session features TruNest Multi-Tool, Inventor Professional, and Vault Professional. A major gas utility client recognized the benefits of 3D design and engaged Autodesk consulting to develop a strategy and solution to replace their existing 2D CAD tools. The project introduces Building Information Modeling (BIM) for pipeline engineering design with an agile implementation plan to accelerate adoption. The recommended solution used Plant Design Suite, including AutoCAD® P&ID software and AutoCAD® Structural Detailing software, in combination with AutoCAD® Electrical software, AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software, and Vault software to completely replace the existing systems and provide significant productivity improvements. In this class, we discuss the process that was conducted to develop the system solution business and functional requirements, the solution design, and the business justification for 2D to 3D design adoption. Bridgestone Corporation is currently researching the utilization of mixed-reality technology for design, operations, maintenance, training, and sales. This class will cover our current findings and how to use the technology in process manufacturing. This class will cover some of the challenges faced when adopting AutoCAD Electrical software for use in the design of substation control and communications systems. We will also look at the Solutions found during a single company's journey from simple 2D AutoCAD software drawings to a fully integrated Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach. Topics will include strategies for adaptation, possible areas of interest within your company, and thoughts on training and standards.

This session is a follow up to “Intro to Composite Manufacturing Platform.” This hands-on course will follow the entire manufacturing process of composite and carbon fiber parts using automated fiber placement and tape laying. We will cover the following topics: we will compare and analyze manufacturing strategies to determine the best manufacturing method for the part shape in question using TruPlan software; once we select the correct manufacturing technique for each layer of material, we will select a machine to lay the material automatically; we will define the automated fiber placement (AFP) machine using TruFiber software; and, finally, we will generate each toolpath to create the part for the AFP machine using TruFiber software. This session features TruPlan and TruFiber.

Composite materials and particularly carbon fiber are some of the hottest materials in the manufacturing world today. Renowned for their high strength-to-weight ratio, carbon fiber parts are becoming more popular in traditional fields such as automotive and construction. Carbon fiber parts are created using additive-manufacturing processes and advanced techniques. Due to their high cost, efficiency is crucial to these kinds of parts. Autodesk, Inc., has created a manufacturing suite for the design, simulation, and manufacturing of composites materials such as carbon fiber. This platform will cover all of the production strategies that are currently in the market, including hand layup, fiber placement, and tape laying. Composite materials like carbon fiber and fiber glass pose a stronger and lighter alternative to traditional materials. These materials have changed the aerospace industry for more than 30 years and are making their way into automotive, construction, and consumer goods markets. However, not many designers and manufacturers have the knowledge or skill required to produce parts with these materials. This course will exhibit how software solutions are bringing the skills gap down, letting more product designers capitalize on advanced materials. We will walk through designing a composite part, analyzing its ability to be manufactured, generating data for the manufacturing process, and demonstrating some of the manufacturing techniques live in this course.
