This class will focus on two advantages that construction companies can gain when collaborating in the cloud: collaboration and scalability. We will discuss how to rapidly and effectively share, aggregate, and communicate Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based information in a controlled manner, across a diverse, often geographically dispersed and changing project constituency. We will then show how shifting these workflows to the cloud enables scalability and explain how to provide both the technology and the people to meet the changing demands of a portfolio of projects while seamlessly bringing new companies into a project supply chain.

The KEYS Metaverse is a first-of-its-kind universe built for the evolution of building information modeling (BIM) in real estate, business, socialization, interaction, commerce, and entertainment. The community will be directly involved in creating the KEYS Metaverse, maximizing easy-to-use tools and technical pipelines for custom import of 3D assets in order to ideate and establish their own designs, businesses, event venues, in-game assets, and mini games. Our main differentiator will be the KEYS proprietary metaverse engine, which allows for the decentralized streaming of AAA game-quality content to any device, from mobile to desktop to virtual reality (VR). By using the technology of 3D software, BIM, generative design, NFTs, and Web3, the future of metaverse development has never looked so bright. This project wouldn't be possible without maximizing Autodesk partners and software, including Unreal Engine, Revit software, SolidWorks, Maya software, 3ds Max software, and so on.

This session will cover a case study from The Red Sea Development to share lessons learned from the design, manufacture, and assembly of a large, complex, mass timber structure. In this session, we’ll demonstrate the best practices from the owner's perspective for defining the building information modeling (BIM) requirements and processes to ensure the success of our OSM projects. Imagine four timber-framed, double-curved, 100-foot-span roofs—designed in London, manufactured in Switzerland, shipped to Jeddah, and assembled at a remote site. We'll share our experience of evaluating BIM formats, determining preferred solutions for the interoperability between Revit software, Rhino, and cadwork to support the designers, timber manufacturing, and contractors to deliver the luxury building. Our teams used BIM 360 software for the model collaboration for review of design and coordination issues. And we learned how to maximize the tools and platform to solve complex challenges, improve our quality-control processes, and ultimately deliver the project on site.

This session will focus on the core ambitions and work of Women in BIM (WIB), covering the uptake, history, and global reach of this organization throughout the last 10 years. As an industry group spanning 30 countries across the world, our members and regional leaders are all in place to support and encourage digital methods and processes in their projects and in their work. Women in BIM was founded in 2012 as a response to the lack of women in building information modeling (BIM) and in digital roles across the built environment. Our main ambition is to ensure equal representation and a stronger focus on retaining women across the industry on a global level. With more and more people moving into varying industries and organizations worldwide focusing on retention, WIB is more important than ever in encouraging and celebrating female role models across the globe. This session will also discuss the importance of diversity and gender equality as a key ambition of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

How does the world's fifth-largest airport manage its capital improvement program using building information modeling (BIM)? Through various project delivery methods and contracts, the owner mandates the use of Revit software and Autodesk Construction Cloud. This panel session will discuss the digital transformation happening within the capital improvement program at an international airport. With 15 km of metro line and 15 stations developed in Sao Paulo, Line 6 is the largest public-private infrastructure project under development in Latin America, and one of Acciona’s largest projects. Resuming it has its challenges: the size of the project, its complex and diverse city setting, the large network of stakeholders, and the extra challenge of a contract resumed after several years of being on hold. Building information modeling (BIM) had been implemented across most disciplines, allowing a smooth restart helped by point clouds and our topographers providing daily feedback to our engineering team. Autodesk Docs software as a common data environment (CDE) has helped us to achieve the transversality of information. It has become a key tool for regarding project review, design interface, and constructability solutions. In the time of a pandemic, Autodesk Construction Cloud has facilitated the coordination and collaboration between different teams and countries, ensuring that key stakeholders have access to the latest data, anytime and anywhere.

Building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) integration has become an essential part of large-scale projects. While a massive amount of information is produced during the project lifecycle, it’s sometimes hard to use it because it’s trapped inside the BIM and GIS software. This becomes an obstacle for non-users of BIM and GIS—especially on decision-maker levels and from project management perspectives. Using business intelligence software, Microsoft Power BI, and the support of other software like Autodesk Forge and VCAD, Power BI will be able to present intelligent models and GIS layers in an interactive way connected with all types of trackers. In this session, the speaker will present how they created an information center that acts as the single source of truth for their projects using the interactive connection between Power BI, BIM 360 software, ArcGIS, and trackers in Microsoft Excel to give all team members access to up-to-date information.

Microsoft Project is a strong scheduling and management tool that’s used all over the construction market world. We’ve implemented an innovative workflow that uploads Microsoft Project data directly into a custom web cloud environment shared between stakeholders with security permissions based on project, schedule option, and user role. This maximizes our current tools and easily brings their users into a cloud-based building information modeling (BIM) environment. The developed custom web site implements the Autodesk Forge platform, which connects uploaded data in the cloud with 3D modeling, boosting the information into a new visual format. This workflow has greatly shortened the time it takes to get updates to the 4D dimension of a BIM project and has increased the benefits of its implementation.

Even with the enhancements of building information modeling (BIM) workflows, the estimators have struggled to take off quantities accurately due to the lack of "information" in the BIM data. Add to that the complexity of combining 3D takeoffs with 2D drawings, and the estimators have a never-ending nightmare. The result is either not winning the job, or winning with not much profit. This is where Autodesk Takeoff—the cloud-based 2D and 3D quantity takeoff (QTO) tool from Autodesk Construction Cloud—is proving to be a gamechanger. With the industry-leading, automated, 3D takeoff capabilities combined with easy-to-use 2D takeoff tools, Autodesk Takeoff allows estimators to generate accurate bids and win more jobs. This class will focus on showing the capabilities of the connected takeoff process using the BIM data hosted on the Autodesk Construction Cloud project. You’ll learn about the automated 3D takeoffs and how to combine them with the customizable 2D takeoffs to generate accurate bids. You’ll also learn how to review changes in design and update your takeoffs.

The rail infrastructure industry has large-scale challenges: design integration of many diverse engineering disciplines, asset combinations that bring together the entire building information modeling (BIM) lifecycle, and projects that have operations running for decades rather than a couple of years. These challenges need more than just one product; they require a platform solution that can grow and evolve over time. In the last decade, Autodesk has been investing heavily in improving specific railway infrastructure solutions in combination with a strong platform foundation. This class will give an overview of the entire rail lifecycle and how Autodesk supports its defining processes: measuring and modeling existing situations, feasibility studies, multidisciplinary/integrated design, site execution, project collaboration, and handover. This class content is based on Autodesk consultancy and product teams’ rail infrastructure background and partnerships with industry leaders, resulting in a comprehensive rail overview.

At the project A16 de Groene Boog, we’ve implemented building information modeling (BIM) with the real “single source of truth” (SSOT) principals based on the ISO 19650 standards. This is not only for use of the “basic” BIM subjects like 3D, 4D, and clash detection, but also for the SSOT for geographic information system (GIS), TWIN16 (the digital twin product for virtual testing of tunnel technical installations for this project), and the communications department for stakeholders like visual (360-degree) presentations and external communication platforms.

The transition from 2D design through to 3D parametric model-based delivery for bridges remains a challenge for many consultants, where moving from traditional approaches is considered either too challenging or the benefits for building information modeling (BIM) delivery will not be realized. This class will show the key steps our team has taken throughout the last five years using Autodesk software to model, design, analyze, and document various types of bridges and viaducts. These steps demonstrate our evolution toward intelligent, model-based delivery. We’ll share the many challenges, pitfalls, and lessons learned we have encountered and gained along our journey working in various countries and stages of delivery. Attendees will gain valuable guidance needed to prepare their team, project disciplines, and clients to pilot new approaches for bridge design and documentation—and beyond to full BIM-based delivery.

For the last two years during the pandemic, Jacobs’ digital delivery team in Australia has been aware of the increasing challenges posed by remote project collaboration and stakeholder engagement. We’ve developed a platform named SIFT that is built on top of Autodesk Forge, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Azure services to help accelerate our internal digital transformation. SIFT democratizes building information modeling (BIM) data by helping design teams better consume and understand design information from intelligent models, bridging the gap between specialized BIM software and end users, and making information from Autodesk Construction Cloud easily accessible through enterprise-level IT infrastructure like Microsoft 365. When used together with Microsoft Power Platform, SIFT helps us effectively remove most coding requirements and lower the threshold for adoption and operation of BIM technologies, making BIM data more accessible and actionable.

In this class, FSTechnology will showcase how to achieve up to 40% in overall time reduction for some site supervision activities by automating the estimation of the site’s physical progress and of cut-and-fill volumes. This class will illustrate two workflows that you can apply to both building information modeling (BIM) projects and traditional project drawings. The first fully automated workflow calculates the progress of the construction works, starting from the exchange on Autodesk Construction Cloud of all point cloud data coming from drone surveys. The main steps are the production of simplified railways track path models in Revit software, the performance of a bespoke clash detection in Navisworks software to assess the works’ progress, and the interpretation of the XML output with .NET scripts to feed a Microsoft Power BI dashboard. The second workflow generates DEM (digital elevation model) surfaces from point clouds via a Python script to then calculate cut-and-fill volumes with Dynamo in Civil 3D. The results are also exported as a structured data source for a Microsoft Power BI dashboard.

Parsons will highlight the capabilities available within an airport digital twin by showing our work to support the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport digital twin project. The digital twin includes a main runway and passenger terminal. We’ll detail our work to help define digital governance standards, develop a runway-specific asset ontology, and integrate data across multiple source systems: Civil 3D software, Revit software, Infor EAM, Johnson Controls, Veoci Part 139 airfield inspection software, Esri GIS, and ViewMondo weather station data running within the Microsoft Azure Digital Twins cloud. The twin provides real-time updates via Internet of Things (IOT) runway sensors that specify temperature, surface temperature, humidity, and water film. This session will share unique insights and lessons learned regarding the technical and management workflows to plan and execute a digital twin for critical infrastructure assets. A digital twin addresses the industry challenge of how to automate and unify the management of complex civil infrastructure.
