Without them, most products would be pointless. With the two Autodesk programs Fusion 360 software and EAGLE software, these two worlds grow together. This class will provide insight into the world of electronics. We intend to explain very basic things: What is a printed circuit board (PCB) and how is it manufactured? Which electronic components are used? How is an electronic layout created in EAGLE and how can a mechanical engineer use, change, and create a layout in Fusion 360? These basic questions will be explained using some illustrative examples.

Looking for an easy way to add wireless communications to a project? Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee? Wireless electronics is considered by many to be a dark art, even electrical engineers! However, today’s modular hardware and simplified software resources has made it possible for even nonelectrical engineers to successfully add wireless communications to their designs. This course is for mechanical engineers, industrial designers, architects, and software engineers looking to control objects wirelessly or gather data from devices or systems remotely. Spend time with us learning to add Wi-Fi to your next project! Using Eagle, we will build a small sensor-based system that posts data to the cloud and responds to commands from your browser. Some familiarity with embedded software platforms, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar will be helpful but is not required. Familiarity with breadboarding concepts will also be helpful.

We invite customers who have a need to simulate thermal management of electronics to attend this roundtable. We plan on discussing and discovering common electrical computer-aided design (ECAD) and mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) workflows, going from ideation, conceptual layout, and final design. Thermal management fits in this design process throughout and we will present some mockups on how we see the next generation of simulation fitting into the design process. We hope to gain insight from the roundtable regarding how participants currently manage the ECAD data and use it along with MCAD data to perform thermal simulation, where their struggles are, and what could be done to make everything easier. This session features CFD, Forge, and Fusion 360.

This class will try to give an introduction to the new features within Fusion 360 software regarding electronics cooling simulation. A real model can be simplified in Fusion 360, and then taken through the whole workflow of setting it up, running simulations, and analyzing results. The class will also capitalize on the other capabilities from Fusion 360, to combine the design optimization with Fusion Mechanical simulation and Generative Design in Fusion 360.

The challenge that all electronic designers encounter is acquiring or building components that will be used in their products. The added variant to this already elaborate process is building or generating 3D models that need to be associated for effective mechanical modeling. For this presentation, we will be showing techniques used to build electronic component footprints with associated 3D models. We will also teach you how to create 3D models of electronic components using Fusion 360 software.

In this instructional demo, we’ll show how Fusion 360 Electronics software can be maximized with Fusion 360 strong modeling tools to produce a distortion-effect pedal end to end. We'll discuss the design of the effect in detail, as well as how having an integrated workflow between electronics and mechanical tooling simplifies and expedites the design process. Throughout the demo, we will be highlighting the specific features in Fusion 360 that enabled us to go from idea to completed prototype.

Electronics can be difficult to design due to the reliance on various assembly components. Add to that the occasional need to swap between various software applications when designing specific components, such as the PCB, it can become difficult to get everything sync’d up and a more wholistic picture of the design. With products becoming smarter and more connected, the need for an integrated Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is paramount. This class will introduce the first-ever cloud connected ECAD to MCAD workflow. We will discuss how EAGLE and Fusion 360 can work side by side to create schematics and generate board layouts from 3D CAD geometry and accurate 3D representations of PCBs to create enclosures within Fusion 360.

During Autodesk University 2021, we shared a developed workflow for how designers can bring data together through designing the part, the PCB (printed circuit board), and even how to manufacture the plastic components. With the complexity of electronic part designs, there are often various aspects that we need to consider in order for the part to both work and perform as expected. In this class, we’ll demonstrate how the Autodesk Fusion 360 workflow has matured to incorporate mechanical engineering aspects to smooth this product design workflow. We’ll use a sample product, the Autodesk University Digital Badge, to demo how to integrate mechanical design requirements and simulation into the product design process.

This course will present a novel framework and development works for enhancing building asset management, particularly operations and maintenance (O&M), by visually intuitive integration among Building Information Modeling (BIM), asset management (AM), and various electronics systems. A newly developed BIM-AM system provides an intuitive way to access heterogeneous O&M information of assets such as photos, attributes, equipment relationships, manuals, drawings, maintenance records, live views of closed circuit television (CCTV) systems, real-time sensing data from building management systems (BMS) and wireless ad-hoc sensors, as well as location information from a real-time location system (RTLS) in an integrated mobile platform. All of this information is accessible simply by asset repository, the maneuvering throughout a BIM model, or even a handheld radio frequency identification (RFID) scanning tool. The results have successfully demonstrated the use of BIM in O&M workflow, responsive incident handling, and enhancing building sustainability.
