This session will include demonstrations of carbon data analysis and insights using Forma, Revit, Insight, and Construction Cloud. We'll go under the hood to explain how these tools work on their own and together across planning, design, and construction. Through robust bidirectional BIM (Building Information Modeling) integration, direct access to leading analysis tools, and guidance and recommendations from industry benchmarks such as Architecture 2030 and ASHRAE 90.1, designers can pursue better performance outcomes throughout the building lifecycle. The next generation of Autodesk Insight software provides a simple collaborative workspace for project teams to target, trade off, and track total carbon throughout the design process and building lifecycle using open and extensible data and analysis. In this session, you'll join leaders from Autodesk Product Development and Impact (Sustainability) teams, as well as customers and partners, to learn about new capabilities available today in next-generation Autodesk Insight——and where it's going in the future. This will build upon the product vision and strategy shared in previous AU classes of the same title, and now we'll provide real-world examples to learn from, reuse, and adapt to meet your needs.

Skanska’s long adoption of BIM 360 Field software lets us derive new lessons using BIM 360 Insight software. Skanska was an early adopter of BIM 360 Insight, which uses machine learning to sift through thousands of data points and help project teams identify project risk factors in real time. From the perspectives of the user and developer, the presenters will discuss how Skanska and Autodesk partnered and collaborated to adapt this new technology to the industry processes and ensure its readiness for adoption across projects within Skanska. We will highlight successes as well as the challenges to presenting AI-reviewed data for action for executives and jobsites. Understanding that new tools present with new benefits and challenges, we will present best practices and lessons learned for other contractors to implement BIM 360 Insight. We will also present opportunities to expand BIM 360 Insight from the current use cases for collaboration beyond the current jobsite.

It’s early in the design process. Wouldn’t it be great if there was something that evaluated the benefit of adding insulation, the impact of installing heftier glazing, or the increased efficiency in rotating your building 10 degrees? Architects don’t want to get into energy “modeling.” That’s not their gig. Let's leave that to the MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) professionals. Early energy analysis is the way to go, and tools within Revit software are available to help guide the process. In this session, we will investigate the tools available, including Insight 360 software, and the benefits of running energy analysis early in project design. Insight is a component of Revit software offering powerful energy-modeling capabilities through all stages of design. This course will cover the use of Insight to analyze Revit models, from the very earliest conceptual stages all the way through issuing construction documents. By using these methods, attendees can achieve their Architecture 2030, B3, and even net-zero goals. Attendees will learn how to use this powerful software to predict and optimize energy use, evaluating factors affecting both architects and engineers. With Insight, it is possible to analyze a wide range of potential design choices and chart a clear course toward reducing overall energy use, designing sustainable buildings with an easy-to-use and intuitive process.

The Moldflow Sensitivity Study, a design of experiments (DOE), determined the impact of common Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Insight software processing inputs on common results. It also helped to determine the level of interaction among these settings and the impact of material- and geometry-specific interactions. We will highlight the methods used for performing the study, including tcodes, tcodesets, scripts, the Moldflow command shell, creation of studies, modification of studies, extraction of results, and more. Attendees will be able to repeat a similar study with their own commonly used geometries and materials. Study results will help Moldflow Insight users to increase efficiency by reducing design optimization time and determining the magnitude of impact of commonly used process settings. Note: This study included some functionality not currently available in the Moldflow Insight DOE module.

Since 80% of carbon is already locked into a product by the decisions made at the design phase, making good design and manufacturing choices is key to producing products with lower carbon impact. However, today, designers and engineers lack the data and tools to inform their design and manufacturing decisions, all while new and upcoming regulations are forcing designers and manufacturers to produce their products in more-sustainable ways. To tackle this issue, this talk will introduce Autodesk's new Manufacturing Sustainability Insights tool. Created in partnership with Gravity Climate, this interactive manufacturing-impact exploration tool for Autodesk Fusion 360 will provide users with valuable insights into the carbon emissions associated with producing their designs via various manufacturing methods, enabling users to make better informed decisions that support sustainable manufacturing practices, resulting in better products for the planet.

With the 2023 release of AutoCAD software, Autodesk has expanded and improved its advisory engine known as My Insights. When introduced, this feature was delivered to the AutoCAD user by serving personalized productivity insights based on product usage data. Now, Autodesk is exploring how CAD, building information modeling (BIM), and IT managers can also benefit from access to the product usage data from the industry and from within their companies and teams. Imagine having a line of sight into how and where products are used, where training is needed, what efficiency opportunities are being missed, and how CAD standards are being followed—and being able to make better technology decisions, all supported by data. The next generation of Insight in Revit 2025 software is a powerful tool for predicting carbon usage in building designs from the earliest design stages. With this highly accessible tool, anyone can participate in the process of making critical decisions regarding the sustainable design of a building. By combining Revit model data with the open-source EnergyPlus engine, fast and accurate energy calculations become easy for all Revit users. Learn how Victus Engineering, a small MEP firm in St. Paul, Minnesota, used the next generation of Insight to design a sustainable library building. From the earliest schematic design stages, Victus engineers used Insight in combination with other Revit tools like Systems Analysis to select and rightsize equipment, design sustainable systems, and drive conversations with the architect regarding the overall direction of the design. As we work through projects, there's a constant generation of information. Unfortunately, we almost never get to see it, much less capture and analyze it, thereby missing many opportunities to inform future projects or help with current ones. BuroHappold Engineering is a global engineering firm that's decided to tackle this problem at an enterprise level by finding ways to automatically collect, share, and analyze this constant stream of project information. The firm has taken a multifaceted approach to mining project data for insights by using a mixture of internally developed tools and external tools like Microsoft Power BI and Kinship. This class will cover the methods and strategies that BuroHappold is using to mine all the data generated daily by each project. We'll look at how the firm is using a combination of external tools as well as examples of when developing a tool in-house has made more sense. We'll also discuss how to integrate new tools into project teams and how to approach enterprise-level adoption and analysis.

Buildings and construction generate nearly 40% of annual global CO2 emissions. Of that 40%, building operations account for 28%, while building materials and construction (a.k.a., embodied carbon emissions) are responsible for 11%. Achieving zero emissions in operations requires a continued focus on energy efficiency, avoidance of the use of fossil fuels, and use of renewable energy systems. Unlike operational carbon emissions, which occur throughout the life of a building, embodied carbon emissions occur “up front” and so play a bigger role in the global carbon budget in the more immediate future. As such, it is more imperative than ever that architects and other project stakeholders start to employ total carbon analysis at all stages of every project. In this session, you’ll join Autodesk Product Development and Impact team members to learn about new data, analysis, and insights into total carbon to help make effective reductions as part of a more integrated, building information modeling (BIM)-based design process.

The building industry accounts for 40% of annual global CO2 emissions. Decarbonization technologies require specialized analysis, precluding many architecture, engineering, and construction customers from using software to drive impact. Autodesk is working with industry specialists to integrate open-source platforms to democratize this complex analysis, make it accessible, and deploy it at scale. Learn how Revit Systems Analysis and Insight integrate new workflows to analyze "building-specific" strategies, such as PV, heat pumps, and battery storage—as well as evaluate energy consumption and carbon emissions, and accelerate decarbonization strategies. With Systems Analysis and Insight workflows, users can collaborate with project stakeholders to uncover strategies using data stored within Revit software. This facilitates design processes that make energy and carbon analysis integral components of an integrated building information modeling (BIM) workflow.
