Our smartphones are filled with apps that track numerous things like our heart rate, running speed, and sleep patterns, but what can this new world of internet-connected devices do for our work lives in industry? Growth of a new class of products called “connected devices” or the “Internet of Things (IoT)” will usher in a new era of smarter, more cost-effective factories. These devices will make production data visible and useful, and will do much to help factory managers make more strategic decisions. This class will cover emerging trends in the Internet of Things and introduce a new, easy-to-implement application for managing factory operations. The cloud-based application uses data collected from wireless, non-intrusive sensors, and displays it in the context of a digital model in order to deliver actionable insights for energy and production management.

Interest in the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to grow as governments, companies and individuals begin to realize the potential that a data-driven world has to offer. This talk explores how the construction industry can use the data it collects via tools like BIM and sensors to feed into the wider IoT agenda and the benefits this could bring. We will discuss how we can utilise the data we collect for a variety of purposes including benchmarking and continuous improvement, while also considering how we can combine our data with data sets from other sectors to create greater insights for the industry, client, and end user. The Research Team at Autodesk, Inc., has been developing technology for the Internet of Things (IoT) since before people called it that. Project Dasher is a building performance management tool that displays historical and real-time sensor data inside a building model. The Research Team has taken the learning acquired while developing Project Dasher and used it to create technology that addresses the needs of the broader IoT market. This session will look at how IoT APIs (application programming interfaces) from Autodesk Research can be used to display information in websites integrating the viewer from the Forge Platform to inform the design process and even power generative design. Parsons will highlight the capabilities available within an airport digital twin by showing our work to support the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport digital twin project. The digital twin includes a main runway and passenger terminal. We’ll detail our work to help define digital governance standards, develop a runway-specific asset ontology, and integrate data across multiple source systems: Civil 3D software, Revit software, Infor EAM, Johnson Controls, Veoci Part 139 airfield inspection software, Esri GIS, and ViewMondo weather station data running within the Microsoft Azure Digital Twins cloud. The twin provides real-time updates via Internet of Things (IOT) runway sensors that specify temperature, surface temperature, humidity, and water film. This session will share unique insights and lessons learned regarding the technical and management workflows to plan and execute a digital twin for critical infrastructure assets. A digital twin addresses the industry challenge of how to automate and unify the management of complex civil infrastructure.

Learn how to automate the exchange and augmentation of information with Autodesk Tandem technology using Safe Software's FME no-code data-integration platform. Together we’ll construct automations to extract Autodesk Tandem data to business intelligence tools like Microsoft Power BI and Tableau. And we’ll update Autodesk Tandem information with new data, ranging from Microsoft Excel to Internet of Things (IoT) streams.

Autodesk Research has been exploring the intersection of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and Internet of Things (IoT) for the last decade. Project Dasher (http://dasher360.com) integrates sensor data with model data from Autodesk's Forge platform to contextualize IoT data in 3D. This session will look at what is happening with Dasher, but also will talk in detail about the Forge capabilities that Dasher has used—which are available to all Forge developers—to build a digital twin integrating real-world performance data.
