This class will show you how to use Google Earth™ to import GIS information using AutoCAD® Civil 3D® and Autodesk® Revit® software. Autodesk Revit and Autodesk® Ecotect® Analysis software will be used to properly analyze, place, and orient the design of the building. Autodesk® Revit® MEP and Autodesk® Revit® Structure software will be used to design the energy analysis and cost analysis for the class. Upon completion of any structural-related building within Autodesk Revit, an energy analysis template will be used to track all electrical and heating costs for the owner’s operational use. A second template will dictate the cost of building construction using Autodesk Revit and Autodesk® Navisworks® software. Upon completion of the Revit 3D model and cost analysis templates, Autodesk Navisworks will be used to simulate the IDP construction process. The audience will see documentation on how 3D IDP is integrated, from the Civil GIS phase to the construction and bidding phase.

Come and learn how to add user-defined information to a 3D model, and how to use and manage that information downstream in the processes. We will show how you can add project-specific information to your infrastructure model and how other project stakeholders can use it. In this class, you will prepare your Revit and Civil 3D models for Navisworks Manage. Next you will set a project point in Revit to make model consolidation easier. Then you will create a construction schedule of a building and its access road. This will help you uncover coordination issues in the field before construction ever begins.

This class will focus on pushing the innovative 3D model into the 4D world. You will learn the process of how to create 4D-ready models in Revit software for Navisworks Manage software, Navisworks Simulate software, and Synchro software. The class will also highlight the difference between the traditional 3D coordination model, which is mainly used for clash detection, and a 4D-ready model. In addition, the class will cover the interaction of the model with the 4D software, and provide examples of actual building proposals that used this 4D-ready-model process. We'll show how the process provides clear communication to the stakeholders and parties involved regarding the construction plan, and how it has diminished cost and construction time in on-going projects, making them more efficient and productive. Clash detection and coordination, though not an entirely new concept, has gained traction in recent years. It is a process of discovering the areas or elements that could possibly clash-or, in other words, would occupy the same space. It helps to reveal design conflicts before construction. However, most projects the class presenter has been involved with or has observed do not allocate enough budget for this process, and people still use a conventional 2D-drawing review method for quality assurance / quality control. This class will cover best practices of model clash review during the design phases and methods of tracking the revised/approved status. Today's challenge is how to manage the clashes efficiently besides just locating the clashes, because most tools identify the clash location precisely. Moreover, with recent technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), we can simulate the walk-through experience for a better communication with clients and team members.

We start by scanning the facility to generate a 3D point cloud, which forms the base for architectural and MEP models in Revit software. This class will demonstrate the workflow between Revit software, Navisworks software, and Primavera software, referring to a project we delivered (the LNG tank located in Gladstone, Australia). In successfully delivering our work, we developed a structural model with scheduled 3D reinforcement utilizing the rebar extension tools and developing adaptive component families to represent as post tension. We will go through the tips and tricks that the company has picked up along the way, and explain further the reason why we used adaptive components. Furthermore, you will see that within Navisworks software we used the simulate functionality of the product to integrate the client’s native construction program utilizing certain rules and tricks. Once the Building Information Modeling (BIM) was developed, we validated the design and constructability utilizing 3D, 4D, and 5D workflows.

This class will explore the potential and power of digital construction and project management with the AEC Collection. In this class, we will dive into the complex installation of several large tanks in a highly confined facility, utilizing drone technology and reality capture with different software integrations. Some of the software this class will explore is AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Vehicle Tracking, ReCap software, ReCap Photo software, Navisworks software, InfraWorks software, and more. With the integration of all these programs, the project was able to succeed as planned, utilizing found vehicle and building clearances as well as logistical confirmation of the project's ability to succeed. This class will demonstrate the effectiveness of the AEC Collection as well as the virtual design and construction (VDC) methodology.

You asked for it: The sequel to the lab that has appeared at Autodesk University four times for three years. This is a deeper dive into the workflows that will pick up where we left off in previous years of editing point clouds and collaborating on our designs with many trade partners. We will review how to clash point clouds easily and reliably and not get too many false positives. Examples provided will use desktop applications and BIM 360 software—yes: point clouds in the cloud! We'll also take a quick tour covering how to extract a piece of equipment for use in planning and general arrangements, or as a template for creating a 3D asset. Next, we'll go over the demolition workflow and how we've created various demolition packages throughout the years at SSOE Group, as well as how to incorporate into BIM 360 and the Cintoo Cloud. Finally, we'll review how to reduce storage on a network and use the undocumented feature of importing unified data sets in ReCap software. No prior use of ReCap on a project is required.
