We will cover how to incorporate Autodesk® Inventor® software models into your design. We will also demonstrate the structural workflow in the suite, which incorporates Autodesk® Revit® Structure and AutoCAD® Structural Detailing software. You will also learn how AutoCAD® P&ID and AutoCAD® Plant 3D software work together.

Plant designers are among the earliest adopters of reality capture technologies. With a facility's constant demand for upgrade, repair, and turnaround, highly accurate, yet efficient real-world measurements are an essential foundation for new design and organized asset management. One major technology, laser scanning, is becoming more of a standard rather than luxury within the plant design world. Over the past few years Autodesk has made significant strides in combining reality capture technologies natively into software products such as AutoCAD® software and Navisworks® software. This class provides live demonstrations and real user stories to review the latest enhancements for reality capture in the 2014 product portfolio as well as evaluate how the enhancements affect the AutoCAD plant design workflow. Attendees learn the latest methods for going from scanning, to point clouds, to deliverables such as intelligent plant models, tie-in points, equipment conditions, clash reports, and more.

The handover of a 3D model is an old standard practice in the industrial plant market-one that nowadays has to be integrated with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach. This presentation will walk you through the journey that an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor took by implementing BIM inside its typical design workflow for an $800 million petrochemical plant in the Middle East. We will demonstrate how to perform civil and structural design using Revit software from conceptual up to construction documentation delivery, and how to take full advantage of 3D modeling for plant project coordination and information management. Thanks to this method of collecting and delivering model data in an efficient manner, it's possible to recognize potential risks, impacts, and conflicts-and to take action in order to bring the project to success. Finally, the class will briefly discuss the project and process BIM implementation benefits, together with the related risks for a general contractor.

In this class, we will introduce you to the programming language Python. You will learn how to set up a simple development environment and create a few basic scripts. Next, you will learn to install and test the scripts with AutoCAD Plant 3D software. Come and learn how to use scripting to create custom objects for use in AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Use ReCap software to register your point clouds for use in AutoCAD Plant 3D software. ReCap software simplifies the process of adding new equipment and piping to an existing plant. As-builts can be difficult and getting field measurements that are precise and thorough can be very time-consuming. Using laser scans can ease the pain of this task and make modeling new equipment and piping in as-builts fun again!

This class will cover workflow process for laser scanning utilizing Z&F scanner, ReCap Ultimate software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and Navisworks software. You will learn how to use laser scanning and ReCap software in a real-world retrofit project show, and you’ll gain some timesaving ideas about getting scan data into AutoCAD Plant 3D software and working directly inside the point cloud. You will learn how to get this done with no third-party applications and using only ReCap software, Navisworks software, and AutoCAD Plant 3D software. When you work in environments like chemical plants—which are normally small scan jobs and quick turnaround maintenance types of jobs—using ReCap software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software together can greatly reduce design time and help eliminate construction issues after the design has been completed. This session features ReCap 360 and AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Learn how workflows and third-party tools can help to overcome the challenges of data exchange between Autodesk, Inc., and non-Autodesk Plant Solutions in a multidisciplinary design environment. Learn how we can use AutoCAD Plant 3D software and Revit software to modify and enrich an existing plant design management system (PDMS) project, and how to hand over AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit models in PDMS format, eliminating the need for remodeling. See how existing PDMS models may be brought into AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit for work sharing. AutoCAD Plant 3D has quickly become a premier solution for piping design in the plant community. For a complete plant project deliverable, we need to understand the best practices in being interoperable with additional Autodesk® products. While some of these products,such as AutoCAD® Revit® Structure and Autodesk® Navisworks® software, exist in Autodesk® Plant Design Suite, there is also a need outside of the suite to create mechanical, HVAC, and electrical models. This class will focus on how to bring all of these premier Autodesk applications together for a complete interoperable plant project that greatly enhances overall coordination.

AutoCAD Plant 3D software and AutoCAD P&ID software can very effectively help in the design and modeling of plant projects; however, troubleshooting problems related to Plant Design Suite can be a challenging task. In this class we will cover the 'sore spots' of AutoCAD Plant 3D software. You will learn how to troubleshoot the most common challenges, including project setup and configuration, networking issues, Vault software, inaccessible projects, customer's custom parts, equipment, specs and catalogs, XML codes editing, and migration problems. You will also learn how to use Revit software data in AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and you will learn how to incorporate AutoCAD Structural Detailing software drawings and Inventor software part and assembly models into an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project for a better workflow.

Over the past few years point clouds have gone from novelty to design requirement. During this time many companies have encountered technological limitations due to insufficient hardware and software solutions. Much has changed. The reality computing technology from Autodesk, Inc., is making laser scan data easier and more efficient to use than ever. This class will examine real Autodesk user experiences regarding how these firms are successfully implementing point cloud data for plant design. Gain insight on the software used, the growing pains experienced in introducing new technology, and the workflows adopted to help users get from the field to completed design. This class will also recommend favorable workflows within Plant Design Suite 2015 software. Discover how to achieve typically needed plant deliverables, including catalog piping and structural design, tie-in point extraction, clash reporting, isometrics, and equipment analysis all from native Autodesk point clouds.

Checklists save lives. Surgeons and airline pilots use checklists to make sure they don’t miss important steps in surgery or during flight. Checklists may save the life of an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project as well. This class will cover key steps for getting an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project underway successfully. We’ll also look at how to set up the project directories and drawings for best practices’ use of external references and for utilizing a plant coordinate system. This in turn enables us to overcome the large coordinates issue and actually work with a state plane coordinate system (SPCS)—and far from 0,0 origin! We’ll also demonstrate checklist steps for incorporating models from other Autodesk, Inc., products such as Revit software and Advance Steel software; for successfully generating isometrics and orthographics; and for using an advanced feature in isometrics that creates these isos in the SPCS. You’ll be provided with all of these checklists as a way to retain this information and to expand on them for your AutoCAD Plant 3D software projects.
