The Summit will focus on customer-driven discussions, from the evolution of project-delivery best practices to customer-driven technology presentations. The discussion will focus on emerging technology and workflow/process change that is empowering connected Building Information Modeling (BIM) in transportation. We'll be focusing on transportation and having in-depth conversations on addressing key issues in transportation and direction that technology should go to support complex, cross-disciplinary projects. This session will walk through a typical highway/road design transportation project workflow using the full suite of infrastructure solutions using InfraWorks software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Navisworks software, Revit software, and Structural Bridge Design software. We will look at the following workflows: InfraWorks road layout tools and component roads for preliminary design; cloud services for corridor and profile optimization for Greenfield or Brownfield projects; the creation of bridge structures and evaluating bridge design with line girder analysis; modeling and analyzing of watersheds, culverts, and drainage networks; the moving of preliminary designs from InfraWorks to AutoCAD Civil 3D software for detailed design and documentation; the moving of bridges from InfraWorks to Revit to make a more parametric structural bridge; and the transfer of detailed design elements back to InfraWorks 360 software to visualize and communicate design intent.

Vehicle Tracking software is a comprehensive Transportation Analysis and Design Solution for vehicle swept path analysis. The software enables engineers, designers, and planners at government agencies and engineering consulting firms to predictably evaluate vehicle movements on transportation or site design projects. This hands-on lab will teach attendees how to utilize Vehicle Tracking software's swept-path tools and use them within a 3D environment in AutoCAD Civil 3D software.

The class will cover the Last Planner principles developed by the Lean Institute and how the software supports this principle. The benefits of adopting the Last Planner principles include increased reliability, greater savings in time and cost, less wastage of materials, and greater utilization of plant. The benefits are further enhanced by collaboration with the supply chain, where they can review their elements of a plan in line with main contractors, and feed into BIM 360 Plan web service, therefore streamlining interactions. The gains made through BIM 360 Plan in this process (such as staying in the field longer) reduce time spent compiling reports in the office and improve Planed Percentage Complete (PPC) with accountability for lost time weekly—enabling root-cause analysis to aid in targeted software and provide a platform for detailed whole project as-built data. With 5 domains of operations—air traffic, airside, landside, ground access, and underground facilities—an airport presents both the greatest challenge and the greatest opportunity to benefit from a digital model of the facility and it's functions. When working on airport transportation planning projects, it is paramount to know the most effective ways to create multiple data sources and then connect them with the Infrastructure Design Suite software tools into an integrated model to be used for decision-making. In this overview of AutoCAD Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, and Navisworks project review software, we will explore the integrated workflows and some critical functions that have been tested and proven in the field

In the class, we'll follow the cyclical Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Collection flow of products to produce the all-encompassing product for our client and the public. We'll start with InfraWorks software for planning and studying purposes. Then we'll move to a survey mobile LIDAR (light detection and ranging) in using ReCap software and InfraWorks software. Next we'll finalize our InfraWorks conceptual for presentation purposes to win the job. At that point, we'll use a combination of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and InfraWorks to meet biweekly with a team of a few dozen key engineering personnel. As the design moves to preliminary plans and prepares for the public meeting, the InfraWorks model has transformed into a graphical representation of the precise design in AutoCAD Civil 3D that is pleasing to the eye and mind of the general public. This includes animations for InfraWorks done in 3ds Max software. We'll touch on preparing virtual reality for the public meeting and other ideas. The project preps for automated machine guidance at submittal time while always being synced with InfraWorks.

This class will cover how we used InfraWorks software in conjunction with AutoCAD Civil 3D software, ReCap software, and Inventor software to carry out the concept design for an innovative new transportation system in the United Arab Emirates. You will learn how we used reality capture methods such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to produce digital terrain and surface models from photos, and how we mapped the existing road layout and topography using laser scans as well as ground-penetrating radar for underground utilities to construct a digital model of the proposed system alignment in InfraWorks. It will also cover how the information was brought in using other Autodesk products, such as ReCap for the point cloud capture, AutoCAD Civil 3D for the utilities, and Inventor to create parametric bridge objects for use in InfraWorks as the unique support structure for the transportation system. Also, we'll demonstrate how we were able to bring all the above together to provide the client with the assurance that the system would work and fit the site aesthetics with confidence.

BAM has developed a technical delivery solution to manage and deliver data throughout the different stages of a project using Autodesk's desktop and cloud products. This process is aligned to best industry standards (BS/PAS 1192-2). COBie is BAM's way of cleverly dealing with data as a project is being delivered. Empowering BAM's supply chain to capture and populate this data in a simple, no-fuss manner has been key to our success. BAM has worked with Autodesk to develop a new computer-aided facility management system for facilities management called BIM 360 Ops (formerly Building Ops). Having this system in place as the buildings operator has let BAM use the best of BIM 360 Field software during project delivery. It is this systems integration that has helped BAM to achieve significant cost and timesavings. The principle case study carried out by BAM compares how 2 similar public-private partnership projects were procured and delivered-one with BIM technology, and the other without.

When Wisconsin Department of Transportation implemented Civil 3D software for roadway design in 2010, a primary goal was to develop construction-ready 3D roadway models as part of the design process. In 2014, WisDOT established standard design model deliverables for all projects with earthwork components. This class will explore the evolution of the WisDOT design model concept. We will discuss how feedback from design and construction project stakeholders has changed our understanding of the purpose of 3D design practices on highway and roadway projects. We will review past changes to WisDOT’s design model concept and the reasons for making those changes. We will also discuss the latest proposed concepts for restructuring WisDOT’s 3D design delivery standards, and how these changes are intended to improve highway and roadway project delivery.

Designing, building, and maintaining a metro line to match the needs of increasing mobility in dense urban areas involves some challenges: constraints on localization, connections with the existing network, works under operation, concomitance of the construction site, safety of traffic and traveler flows, and so on. We'll present new Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementations through different metro projects in France: Grand Paris Express and extension of the networks around the French capital and Toulouse Aerospace Express. BIM is applied on different transportation project phases. The 3D models cover all the works of rail infrastructure, including underground and aerial stations, and tunnels and bridges. With these extra BIM uses covering the entire rail infrastructure, we'll outline the benefits of BIM uses.

This class will explore a large-scale port/transportation project utilizing features in InfraWorks software along with AutoCAD Civil 3D software, AutoCAD software, and AutoCAD Map 3D software. Discover some key techniques to help guide you in transitioning from 2D conceptual planning to 3D and even 4D sequences. This course will cover a wide range of InfraWorks functions, such as creating custom "city furniture" from various sources; creating bridges, roads, and rail; randomizing data objects; running scripts; and, finally, creating project fly-throughs and renderings.

The Los Angeles mayor proposed a $91 million project called Vision Zero that will help the City of Los Angeles end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2025. Every year, more than 200 people are killed while moving through Los Angeles. In fact, traffic collisions are leading causes of death for children in Los Angeles. Los Angeles Department of Transportation and U.S. CAD found many ways to utilize the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection to help achieve goals set forth by this program. Using reality capture technology and ReCap software, they rapidly modeled existing intersections. With InfraWorks software, city planners created 3D models using their extensive GIS libraries and ReCap scans. Continuing in InfraWorks, they laid out design proposals to communicate design with the engineering team. The city engineers then took the InfraWorks model and refined the design using Civil 3D software. The last step was using Vehicle Tracking software to verify that certain vehicles are able to turn at these new traffic-calming intersections. These tools let the process be done in days, which before could have taken weeks.
