Digital Project Delivery for Transportation
Departments of transportation and other highway agencies are attempting to integrate their workflows and information processes as they move from design through the construction stage of the infrastructure lifecycle. This effort is designed to achieve greater efficiencies and cost savings through better collaboration during the construction process, and help facilitate information flows into and out of the field. This panel (under the direction of Esri and Autodesk) will assemble three best practice examples from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT), and the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) to present their current initiatives and engage in a panel discussion. The session will focus on the successes and difficulties each agency encountered as they sought to streamline their workflows associated with the digital delivery process, and how Esri and Autodesk helped them better align their processes with technology.

Transportation Summit
The Summit will focus on customer-driven discussions, from the evolution of project-delivery best practices to customer-driven technology presentations. The discussion will focus on emerging technology and workflow/process change that is empowering connected Building Information Modeling (BIM) in transportation. We'll be focusing on transportation and having in-depth conversations on addressing key issues in transportation and direction that technology should go to support complex, cross-disciplinary projects. BC Ministry of Transportation: Civil 3D Implementation
The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (BC MoTI) plans transportation networks and provides transportation services and infrastructure for the Province of British Columbia. BC MoTI has transitioned from CAiCE and is now using Civil 3D software for consultant and in-house survey, design, and construction administration workflows. This class will detail the entire Civil 3D implementation process, including a BIM (Building Information Modeling)-based approach for the development of workflows and data handoffs, CAD standardization, subassembly and application customization, training and information dissemination, continued support, and documentation. The end product is a Civil 3D terms-of-reference document that describes all of the requirements for using Civil 3D for survey, design, and construction administration tasks, and is applicable to both Ministry staff and private sector consultants.

BIM Workflows for Transportation
This class will explore using Autodesk, Inc.’s, Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Collection for transportation design. We will walk through the Collection identifying software that we can use to efficiently create designs going from conception to design to completion and maintenance. The class will cover InfraWorks 360 software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Navisworks Manage software, and AutoCAD software. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D.

InfoDrainage for Transportation Projects: From Concept to Detailed Design
In this session, we'll explore the intricacies of drainage design workflows for transportation projects, including rail, roads, and highways. Using Autodesk's InfoDrainage and Civil 3D software, we'll present a streamlined workflow that facilitates the interaction and data exchange between both software solutions, with a special emphasis on drainage for transportation-related projects. One of the key learnings will be spotlighting the data exchange and results migration capabilities between civil design software (Civil 3D) and drainage design software (InfoDrainage), without the interjection of spreadsheets. Additionally, we'll highlight InfoDrainage software's machine learning (ML) deluge feature, with emphasis on its potential to expedite the concept and early planning process by rapidly identifying ponding locations on a site. Testing data showed the ML deluge outperforming traditional deluge by identifying ponding on a site in four seconds compared to more than nine minutes.

Get Moving with Autodesk Infrastructure Solutions for Transportation Projects
This session will walk through a typical highway/road design transportation project workflow using the full suite of infrastructure solutions using InfraWorks software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Navisworks software, Revit software, and Structural Bridge Design software. We will look at the following workflows: InfraWorks road layout tools and component roads for preliminary design; cloud services for corridor and profile optimization for Greenfield or Brownfield projects; the creation of bridge structures and evaluating bridge design with line girder analysis; modeling and analyzing of watersheds, culverts, and drainage networks; the moving of preliminary designs from InfraWorks to AutoCAD Civil 3D software for detailed design and documentation; the moving of bridges from InfraWorks to Revit to make a more parametric structural bridge; and the transfer of detailed design elements back to InfraWorks 360 software to visualize and communicate design intent.

Elevating Multidisciplinary Transportation Projects Through BIM 360
Transportation engineers work every day to keep cities and people connected. But how do we keep transportation engineers connected so they can help successfully deliver projects? This class will focus on providing a workflow for hosting multidisciplinary transportation projects in BIM 360 software. We will start with project setup, including cleaning inherited files, folder structure, and drawing and model creation. We'll discuss the steps teams need to take to collaborate through effective data shortcut management, markups, issues, and model coordination. We'll examine collaboration techniques between roadway, utility, and structural designers working in Civil 3D software and architects working in Revit software. In addition, we will show how LIDAR data can be used using Navisworks software to complete the 3D model. Finally, we’ll summarize best practice tips and tricks that can aid design teams in the efficient management of projects. We'll use examples from a successful BIM 360 transportation project located in Toronto.

Advanced visualization to improve communication for transportation design
Max Bögl, a German construction and infrastructure company designed a fully automated urban mobility solution: Transport System Bögl (TSB). It is based on magnetic levitation technology and designed to provide a future-proof public transport for densely populated cities. Max Bögl approached Autodesk Consulting to help finding a quick design solution for their urban mobility systems and build 3D visualization models to communicate the proposed tracks more easily and convincingly. One of the key aspects of the whole design is the light-weight construction of elevated tracks, InfraWorks Bridge Design capabilities with its parametric modelling approach was the perfect answer. This class will highlight the main steps of the solution, the creation of the track and 3D visualization models using Inventor and InfraWorks, including animated parts, generated in 3ds Max to better demonstrate the TSB in action.

Using AutoCAD® Civil 3D® for Construction Quantification on Transportation Projects
Are you using AutoCAD Civil 3D software on a transportation project and still struggling to solve construction earthwork problems? If you fall under either one of these categories, consider attending this class: (1) you have struggled with bridging the gap between the old cross-section methods in CAiCE™ Visual® Transportation software or AutoCAD® Land Desktop software and the new methods in Civil 3D, or (2) you are convinced that Civil 3D cannot handle the cross section solutions and therefore cannot replace the old software already mentioned. In this class, we will use review using Civil 3D as a complete construction quantification tool. We will cover strategizing for success, editing surfaces; editing sections; creating Autodesk® Quantity Takeoff criteria that will work for your situation, creating material quantities; adding earthwork exceptions; and reporting earthwork to Microsoft® Excel®.

Using AutoCAD Civil 3D for Transportation Infrastructure Design
This presentation will review and demonstrate the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) software-development effort to implement AutoCAD Civil 3D software for state and consultant designers. We will examine a sampling of custom tools and applications created by FDOT on the Custom Ribbon to increase productivity and plans consistency using AutoCAD Civil 3D software. We will cover the following sample of FDOT applications: FDOT Takeoff Manager—an application that enables users to create automated Quantity reports in Microsoft Excel; FDOT Entity Manager—which enables the user to draw graphical entities with pay item data for Quantity Takeoff (QTO) preattached, or place the pay item data on entities after they are drawn; FDOT Signs—which enables the user to design sign assemblies and place them into the drawing with pay items attached; and Create File—an application that enables users to create files based on discipline and sync with the proper Templates. The newly created files are then saved to the project folder hierarchy. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D. AIA Approved

Infraworks 360: Seeing the Real World of Transportation in 3D
Join in on this roundtable discussion where you will get a detailed look into the implementation of Infraworks 360 on three entirely unique transportation projects at various stages of the design process. The first project is a full-blown multi-million dollar roadway, bridge, & drainage project through an active rock quarry that chose to utilize Infraworks 360 at the advanced design stage of the project in order to enhance the public outreach process. The second project will provide a peak into an LRT & BRT 14-mile corridor alternatives analysis where various segments of the corridor were brought to life in Infraworks 360 in order to incite agreement amongst various jurisdictions & stakeholders. How the Florida Department of Transportation Uses Civil 3D for Quantifying Design Projects

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) workflows require everything placed or drawn to have magical Xdata attached which contains pay item number(s) and compute methods (formulas). This session will demonstrate the applications within our FDOT Civil 3D 2026 State Kit that facilitate how to seamlessly design and run automated summary reports to obtain an accurate accounting of our State infrastructure projects. The applications we will demonstrate will include Entity Manager, FDOT Signs, Pavement Marking tool, Place Block Group, and FDOT Takeoff Manager.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation Use of AutoCAD Civil 3D: Concepts and Realities
Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WDOT) began using AutoCAD Civil 3D software with the 2010 release. Since that time, more of the department's internal users have switched over and WDOT has switched platforms to 2012 and, more recently, to 2014. As WDOT's use and user base have grown, the department has learned many lessons that have effected how it has moved forward. We will explore these lessons, specifically those that come from the development of standard concepts for use of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the ways in which those concepts are put into practice in project workflows.

Virtual Reality Applications in Transportation Design Education

Vehicle design requires the development of virtual and physical tridimensional models to translate concepts generated by freehand drawing and renderings. This iterative process is very valuable but highly resource-consuming in time, cost, and effort-not only in the modeling process itself, but also in learning time, prototyping, and finishing. With schools tied to the duration of academic terms and student budgets, projects are limited to only CAD and/or scale physical models. However, recently available virtual reality (VR) devices offer alternatives to bridge that gap, enabling full-size 3D drawing exploration and visualization of CAD in small and full scale. This session will discuss the use of VR software and Maya software for initial exploration, as well as VRED software for visualization of vehicle concepts using the HTC Vibe. It describes where in the design process these tools are used, as well as the setup used at the Transportation Design Program at the University of Cincinnati.
